It may have fared badly in the recent robo-olympics, causing hilarity with a series on unexpected falls, but Google has revealed its humanoid robot has been set free in the woods to learn how to run through terrain. The Atlas robot created by Google-owned firm Boston Dynamics is a formidable figure at 6ft 2in tall and weighing in at 330lb. In the video, it is shown struggling to stay upright - but managing to traverse a forest path without falling.

Imagine these armed and chasing down humans.

They left plenty of room on the chest for the FEMA logo.

I’ve stumbled through the woods like that.

With a lot more style, too.

The fools! They are creating our masters!

The Day the Earth Stood Still movie was based on the book below.

Farewell to the Master - select in drop down menu what format. Skip to the end of the story for surprise.

#13 They will use a different power source in the future. When it malfunctions there tends to be a major malfunction.

"They will use a different power source in the future"

A nickel for every time that's been said, and I'd be a millionaire.

Unless you bring the weight, CG, and other forces down significantly, you are looking at about 2.3 amps per axis @460VAC. Considering there are about sixty axises on this robot system, you are talking about 120 amps at 460 VAC. That's 95.609204578 Kilowatts.

Unless your future power system includes it's own nuclear reactor, the only way this thing is going anywhere is on a #6 AWG four conductor stranded cable and on a servo cable with about 400 #22 AWG stranded feedback wires. IOW, it's wire cable will weigh about 200 pounds for every thirty feet.

Maybe they could be used for fighting fires

Google revealed some of the technologies it hoped to developed, such as human like legs with
bone-like makeup and fluid routed internally like a human leg.

A malfunction with a 96.something killowatts draw is going to be quite a malfunction, leaving an arc flash (vaporizing everything because it’s hotter than the sun) within about an eight feet radius.

Last major step is adding a serious power supply that matches.

Make it biochemical and it can 'forage' for it's own food..

Make one that looks like this and I'm not gonna complain at all.

Especially if it comes with that 18+ Adult Options code card. Now THAT'S a feature.
