What in the world is behind such an idiotic debate. It must be the winner of the waste of time contest. Particularly as I’ve fallen into the trap.

Based on the Wiki definition, a hot Dog is NOT a sandwich...

The key part of the definition is "placed on or between slices of bread,"

A hot dog bun is a single entity that is opened up to put the hot dog in

I'm glad to be able to resolve such a idiotic first world problem...donations accepted..

A sandwich is a food item consisting of one or more types of food, such as sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein two or more pieces of bread serve as a container or wrapper for some other food.[1][2][3] The sandwich was originally a portable food item or finger food which began to be popular in the Western World. Today sandwiches in various versions are found worldwide.

whether a hot dog qualifies as a sandwich.

The bread to me would be the key."

A sandwich is a concept. You form an objective concept by observing different types of food and finding those foods that are the same by having a similar distinguishing characteristic, but are different from other types of food that lack that characteristic. The distinguishing characteristic does not have to have the same measurements, so that the instances of the concept do not need to be identical to be considered as a member of the concept. Next, one defines the concept by using the distinguishing characteristic. Thus, if the distinguishing characteristic of a sandwich is food placed between pieces of bread, then a sandwich is a type of food where ingredients are placed between pieces of bread, is a good definition.

Hot Dogs, tacos even egg-rolls fit the general definition of a sandwich, IMHO.

Hopefully, this will come up during the “debates” and will become a major issue during the 2016 elections.

If Bruce Jenner dresses up as a female, changes his name and eats a hot dog, is it still a sandwich?
