Syrian rebels already claimed to have captured about 5000 of this automatic rifles from the Syrian army in 2012 but other footage now shows them using it in action during fighting with the Syrian army.

The Germans did really well for a first attempt at a completely different type of weapon. The HK G3 and G33 are pretty cool too.I got to fire a G33 a few years ago,on full auto I thought it was a better weapon than my M16A1.

I should have bought an HK91 when I had the chance.

The bolt is even on the left where it belongs. The Soviets moved it to the right, so most operators had to move their right hand away from the trigger to chamber a round.
And I’ll bet the machined fits are a light tighter than the AK.
Like jet fighters, wanting bombers instead, Hitler resisted automatic or semi-auto rifles thinking the Mauser bolt action was good enough for him, well it’s good enough ... which is a conservative position if you think about, even if cuckoo.

In the late 70’s I saw several photos from Afghanistan showing Muhajideen fighters armed with Indian manufactured British 1853 pattern Enfield muzzle loaders. The same type of weapon used by both the Union and Confederate Armies during the Civil War.

I believe PTR makes an HK93 clone in 7.62x39. That’s pretty close, in fact, I’ve seen a few of the HK93 knockoffs modified to look a lot like an MP-44.

I'm not sure if it's the same manufacturer, but there's a newer article mentioning a different source/distributor:

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/01/22/new-mp-44-sturmgewehr-rifles-coming-us/

$5,000.00 per copy seems very expensive, but demilled Sturmgewehr parts kits often bring half that (and you no longer get the barrel). Still, for that kind of money, the manufacturer damn well should be delivering a flawless product. No problems with heat treating, no canted sights, no magazine fit issues - just load, charge, shoot and smile.
