Vanity - Need recommendations for a good coffee maker

Posted on 07/04/2015 11:23:42 AM PDT by Perdogg

I just bought a place and I am not a huge fan of coffee, I use diet Mountain Dew to get me started in morning. I realize that if I am going to entertain a lady (or two) at my place I am going to have be able to serve coffee.

My sisters are also big coffee drinkers, and if they visit me, of course, I am going to have to provide them with coffee.

I am looking for a coffee maker that is not too expensive, I am interested in quality, but I do not want one that will restrict the type coffee I can serve. If I want to have Jamaican Blue Mountain, Kona from Hawaii, or Santos from Brazil , or even brew Raffles Tea from Singapore, I want to be able to serve it

Ay recommendations on a coffee maker?

French press and a bean grinder.

Yep.

I use the second bowl of my blender and pulse it 6 times. Fresh coffee beans. Starbucks are usually good because they don’t sit on the shelf for a long time.

French press made in France is preferable.

Bodum goes to China now, I think. You’ll have little choice on that

Ok I know you aren’t into coffee yourself, but I am. I buy raw beans, roast them.. then grind them as I put them in the coffee maker. I can’t even stand per-ground coffee anymore. I’ve gone through all the pod stuff and K cup bs and finally settled on an old Peculator that I use on the stove. If you don’t want to fool with that, just about any old 10-20 dollar Mr coffee drip maker will work as good as anything else. The K cup thing is handy, but the coffee isn’t as good in general and it’s expensive to use... just my 2 cents.

We have a Keurig, but you can’t beat an old fashioned percolating type with freshly ground coffee. I just don’t like drip coffee as much.

I like our Krups but any brand of drip coffee maker should last for a while. To get better coffee grind your own beans with a Cuisinart (or other) grinder. For about $14.80 one can get two and half pounds of whole bean Daily Chef Colombian Supremo medium roast at Sams and that Coffee is tough to beat. Smells heap good too.

Everybody seems to like the Keurig makers that make one cup at a time. It’s good for people who don’t drink a lot of coffee, but not good for people who like to have a pot going all day long (too expensive).

The Keurig cups are outrageoey’d be goodusly expensive, and you have to buy racks to store your selection. But, they’d be good if you only serve the occasional cup.

I have an insulated stainless steel Cuisanart that makes 12 cups. Its advantage is that the insulated pot keeps the coffee hot all day without a burner going so it doesn’t “cook down”. It wasn’t cheap, but I’ve enjoyed it for about 8 years. I bought it at Sam’s Club at a discount.

I’ve probably tended more than 35 coffee pots during my marriage and my office years. The Mr. Coffee type maker is cheap and good, but it will burn out after 2-5 years. And the coffee tastes awful by the end of the day.
