If the OP bought the shed in good faith with Home Depot’s assurance that the door was a certain size, and the door actually was not that size, that’s on Home Depot. I would have checked myself beforehand just to be sure, but that doesn’t change the fact that somebody at Home Depot sold the shed under false pretenses.

They offered to replace it, and you refused. I’d write you off at tat point.

If they sent someone they are opening themselves to lawsuit if any property damage or if any injury.

Do they have one set up in their parking lot? Mine does. Go and measure the door. If it’s less than advertised, take the manager out and measure it for him. Ask him to take apart the one in the lot without breaking it.

It could also be a manufacturer issue. They are still civilly liable to make it right (if legal push came to shove) but what kind of headache does one want to undergo.

The OP could ask what they do with defective merchandise. If the answer is, to send it back to the manufacturer, then the ethical answer would be simple enough. Break it down in whatever way comes short of a wrecking ball, box it back up, and take it back. Put a note on a large piece of paper on the box indicating the difficulty i.e. “Door measurement only X when it should be Y.”

Your absolutely right if it breaks during tear down so be it. go get your money back!!

Yep I bought a water feature some time back from them or one of the other stores on-line. It had a broken leg. I called them up and they said no problem we will send you a new one.

I said, what do you want me to do with this one? They said, we don't care we don't want it back.

So with a bit of gorilla glue I now have two water features. These places are just warehouses, they have no spare parts and nowhere to house returned items.

Hell all the stiff is made in China and generally the shipper is responsible for damaged deliveries anyway so they just don't care.

I have returned plenty of things to Home Deport, etc... that were not perfect, broken, etc.... I NEVER HAD AN ISSUE with them doing that.

The product was either swapped out by Home Depot or I got my money back with no questions asked. The only thing that mattered was did I have a receipt.

After reading what you are demanding..... That’s not rational. When you purchase an item then YOU OWN IT.... Moreover, Home Depot will not come to your house because it’s a liability issue. So that’s not going happen.

Have your husband disassemble the shed the best he can. If it breaks, then it breaks (that part DOES NOT MATTER). Take it back to Home Depot, and swap it for the Shed you need. Be sure to bring your receipt.

If the new shed cost more, then you will have to pay the difference. If it cost less, then you will get some money back. That’s as long as you have your receipt since you paid cash.

Your husband has WAY OVER COMPLICATING THIS issue. You are wasting your time. He should know better than that? Perhaps your husband does not go there very often?

Anyhow, I have deal with Home Depot for years in several states. They all operate the same way.

I stood at the back door at Lowes after their morons loaded 3/4 of my pipe the wrong size and refused to go back through the checkout to get it fixed.

I took my mini tanker bar out of my truck and told the assistant manager to tell me when I had reached $183 in damage to the two delivery trucks parked there.

I got my pipe order corrected and was asked to never come back. It was an un-necessary request....

Good thing they didn’t decide to be asses, because that could have gotten you a visit to the greybar.

Talk to a lawyer. A strongly worded letter from him could help. If you go to court and want any kind of chance at winning you MUST have a lawyer. Lowe’s lawyer will be there.

America has returned to the days of Buyer Beware. If you open the packaging it is yours in many cases. We are all gonna have to be much more careful in our purchases. If there is a critical requirement, you must be damn sure it is met before you buy. That often means measuring yourself rather than depending on the stated measurements.

If you get stuck with the shed, you might replace the doors with wider ones, maybe by ordering replacement doors for the next size up & cutting some plastic, or make yourself some wooden doors, both requiring a little home engineering.

I’m thinking you could replace most if not all of the front walls & door with wood. Screw the plastic sides into a wood wall frame. That might look better than cut plastic.

Or take the doors off & chain the mower if security is an issue.

You overstepped the bounds demanding the compensation for the foundation. Return the shed broken with written instruction from the store manager. Either way you had to build the foundation bigger and from their point of view not their responsibility.

Yep, that’s the one. The local store has several sheds built and on display, but not this one, or we would have gone and measured before we bought it. All of the sheds shown online seem to have the door opening width listed in both inches and feet. The inches are to the inch, in some cases to the quarter inch, but all the foot measurements listed seem to be rounded to the closest foot.

LOL. With 5 acres I actually think we need a bigger one than we have.

Take it apart with a chainsaw and return it. Should be able to take it back in the trunk of your car.

Joe in post #2 is right.

My experience is that (here at least) they make every effort to be accommodating.

And don’t go ‘the moral route’. You’ll be branded a nut-case at the store, and they’ll probably be correct. This is simply a business decision.

By way of example, I bought a bunch of LED bulbs there, and some have burnt out, others are dimming a little more every day.

The ones I’ve taken back have been replaced without question, and without receipt. I expect they will do it again in the future.

Big disappointment, those LEDs. Hasn’t been even a year.

Stop calling. Stop hand wringing. Take it down the best you can, broken parts and all, and truck it back to them.

Collect your refund check.

It really will be that simple.

False advertising, then. Threaten court and follow through if need be.

If it’s more than an inch off, go get them. 64” could be considered a nominal opening and one must consider the 1/2” plus or minus door stops on each side...same with all doors. It’s like a 2x4 is really only 1-1/2” x 3-1/2”.
