The Dishonorable Confederate Battle Flag (Barf)
National Review Online ^ | June 22, 2015 | Jason Lee Steorts

Whether you think it’s all right for South Carolina to fly a Confederate battle flag over a Confederate memorial on its capitol grounds depends on whether you think that the Confederate war dead should be honored. If you do, then you can, as David French does, see the flag as a symbol of their valor and skill while decrying its use by white supremacists. This strikes me as a whitewash of both the flag and the Confederacy. The Confederacy was a rebellion founded on the incoherent idea that the sovereign authority of the United States might be shucked off at the states’ pleasure, and the Confederacy’s primary reason for being was to preserve racial slavery — that is, to violate natural rights rather than to secure them. That is what Confederate soldiers fought for. Whatever else their battle flag may mean, it has to mean that. It did not become a banner of white supremacy in the mid 20th century when racial segregationists took it up. It was a banner of white supremacy, and of lawlessness, from the beginning.

Kindly post a link to a comment - any comment - where I ever disparaged a confederate soldier. If you can’t (and you cannot) kindly STFU.

He’s getting his head handed to him.

What I’m concerned about is Monument Avenue in Richmond. These people will not stop until all our heroes are suppressed.

And people accept the comparison between Nazi Germany and the Confederacy!

I collected several of them when I made a tour of some battlefields this past autumn. BTW, I live near where your namesake hung out. Beautiful battlefield.

The libs and MSM didn't get the riots in Charleston that they wanted. Now activists (many from out of state)have come up with a divisive subject to ruin the unity of the people of Charleston.
Couple this with the bozo in the White House using this tragedy to make a move on guns, and you just might have the perfect storm that will lead to the civil war Roof hoped to start.

He wasn't successful but the lefties might

I believe people have the right to fly whatever flag they want.

I don’t fly the Confederate (Battle) Flag because it represents a group of states in an illegal rebellion against America.

I fly the American flag. Sometimes upside-down depending on the pres_ent.

“Scary ain’t it?”

The playbook has been updated but the methodology of a Mugabe type rise to power is essentially the same: employ “white guilt”, “racism”, make unfulfillable promises, and employ various methods of intimidation.

When power is achieved, elimination of the opposition by physical, legal and/or extra legal means.

Then kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

The only man on Monument Avenue in Richmond with a winning record is Arthur Ashe.

"...And where does it end? What will they demand next?..."

They will stop at nothing until they have achieved their goal: The absolute subjugation of the white Westerner and the complete disenfranchisement of normal white people from the public sphere and the levers of power.

Simply put, they just want our money, and as long as we are meek and don't make waves, we will be allowed to exist.

So "where it ends" servitude.

There is nothing “incoherent” about believing that “the sovereign authority of the United States might be shucked off at the states’ pleasure”

IIRC, the Constitution was (and remains) silent on the question of secession.

I still cannot square how southern Christians justified slavery to themselves. I'm not saying the north was perfect, but to preach slavery from the pulpit is about as bad as preaching “god damn america” from Obama’s church.

I’m still waiting for someone to edit the Trayvon Martin article Wikipedia — to add that Dylann Roof was radicalized by the George Zimmerman trial.

Not a fan of the CSA, but this article is disgusting. Sneering babble from a pantywaist who doesn’t deserve to wipe the shoes of the men he attempts to degrade.

I have no problem pulling the flag. But.. lets be consistent NO flags of any nation we have ever fought against in a war may fly over any .gov ground either.

“I don’t fly the Confederate (Battle) Flag because it represents a group of states in an illegal rebellion against America.”

Wasn’t illegal. States had the right to secceed, according to the original deal. Besides, the North started it by blockading Ft. Sumpter.

The sovereign authority of the United States. The sovereign. Our revolution seems forgotten. The sovereign authority. A slave’s term.

Sorry, no “right to secede” - especially not the way the rebels did in 1860. And Fort Sumter is federal property manned by federal troops.
