Indonisian Volcano Continues to Spew Rocks as Thousands of Villagers Flee

More than 10,000 villagers have fled a rumbling volcano in western Indonesia this month as it continues to send hot ash and thick plumes of black smoke into the air. Mount Sinabung violently erupted last weekend after two years of inactivity, leading to the evacuation of 7,500 residents from their villages as their homes - some up to 15km away - were covered in ash. The total number of evacuees now stands at 10,714, say disaster relief officials, after several thousand people fled their homes at the start of the month when authorities raised the alert status of the volcano on Sumatra island.

There are some truly remarkable photos at the link, particularly one of a Christian church with an ash plume engulfing it. There is a 15 K area of destruction surrounding the mountain.

Sinabung is only 25 miles away from the supervolcano Toba.

And our “settled science” hucksters think we can control the planet.

I thought it would be neat to witness a volcano erupt...Until I got stuck in one. I was in Argentina when Mt. Puyehue blew a few years ago. It was not pleasant. I’ll watch from TV next time.

Not fun, no. But it is awesome, in the true meaning of the word.

Remarkable experience. Every time I think it would be interesting to see something like this up close, I think back on my last drive to Crater Lake and the immense volume of ash, the scale of destruction still visible and the Indian tales passed down to today.

We need to limit our use of vehicles and turning down our thermostats then. This will prevent future volcanic eruptions from occurring.

It makes you wonder if they share the same magma pool at some depth?

Thanks JimSEA. Just an eruption, not a *real* catastrophe.

Here are a number of photos of this classic Fuji shaped volcano, and a few maps and links to other volcanoes.
