Kids in low-income communities statistically do poorer in terms of school performance near the end of each month, in part, because “they start getting hungry” as their food stamps “start running out,” said President Barack Obama at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Santa Monica, Calif., on Thursday.

“Too many of our kids still go hungry in this country,” said Obama.

“I was looking at some statistics, because we're looking at policies around hunger and the SNAP program, and the performance of children in lower-income communities in school dips at the end of the month in a statistically significant way,” he said, “in part because they start getting hungry as their food stamps for their family start running out which then affects how they perform in school.”

The fundraiser where Obama spoke was held at the home of actor, playwright, and songwriter Tyler Perry. …

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

— Proverbs 22:6
Training is not inherited. If a kid is taught sloth and is not in a proper family, what can he learn but sloth?

I know roughly about 75 families living in govt duplex housing in a rural area. Their children get plenty of exercise, made decent grades in school, and have plenty of good wholesome food to eat. The parent or parents that are very young starting out, are not afraid of work. Many work at quick marts as well as being farm hands. Those that dont or cant work, assist the housing in beautification by planting greenery.
But, when I visit a urban HUD housing, I see kids running amok, duplexes that look like they are surrounded by a used car lot, and adults hanging out all hours passing controlled substances for cash. Even in semi-controlled government managed social housing, drugs destroy families. Trading welfare food cards for crack and kids there do suffer and have absolutely no structure to live by. 75 percent of black children born out of the proper family structure . . . everything an anti-family Marxist could dream of, but the horrors are all too real.

Part of this is actually true. I know some teachers in NYC school district, and they tell me the only reason some kids show up is for the free meals. Some kids ask the teachers for advice for how they are going to eat over the holidays.

And the ever popular “pot ‘o beans”.

Cheap, easy to prepare, nutritious and filling.

In lean times as a kid, my family survived on them. None of us have rickets or nothin’.

I wonder if the guy in Seattle who lost his EBT card 200 TIMES had any starving kids at home .

Each card was immediately replaced with a new one with the original value.

No one checked to see if the lost cards were used.

This is ridiculous. How much does a peanut butter sandwich and milkcost? A basic salad hamburger and fries? A rice stir fry made with leftover meat and any veggies in the fridge??

Not much. You can make your own homemade pizza, again , cheap (except for cheese; here in QC, dairy is really expensive.

That is what we eat, and my husband makes a good salary.

But, that involves time. Time spent on focusing on providing for your children

Thought his wife Michelle solved this already by being the unelected queen of school lunch.

I hope the next President is the President for all Americans. If he can’t do that, I hope he’s the President for the majority.

Bologna is a horrible idea. Ever look at the ingredients? Not fit to feed to kids. I think a lot of parents spend all their food stamps at the first of the month - and that’s when the grocery stores raise the prices too. If they would spread them out over the month, they would fare better. There are also grocery stores such as Aldis and Sav-A-Lot where prices are a lot cheaper than the name-brand stores. However, with so many of zero’s policies, the price of groceries have risen tremendously. But, there are still ways to cut corners when shopping.
