Favorite Female vocalists ?
today | Me

Posted on 06/19/2015 5:55:09 PM PDT by Zeneta

While I have a handful or more favorites, I am curious who my fellow freepers elevate to the top of their list?

My list starts with;

Annie Lennox

Kate Bush

Tracey Thorn (Everything but the Girl)

And oddly enough

Cindi Lauper

There's soo many more.

Dolly Parton is right up there.

In no particular order, based mostly on my CD collection:

Kate Bush, Enya, Dianna Krall, Emmylou Harris, Rickie Lee Jones, the Wilson sisters, Patsy Cline, Margo Timmons, Stevie Nicks, Harriet Wheeler, ...

Once upon a time, I was a Natalie Merchant, Shawn Colvin, and Tori Amos fan. Occasionally listen to them for nostalgia.

That’s good. I always loved “Cities in Dust.”

Check out Vet’s post - you can hear One Less Bell to Answer. She’s beautiful as well.

I have many music channels on cable. One of the stations plays a lot of Leslie, Mama Cass, Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross, etc. One also plays The Dxie Cups. Love that music. I believe most of these are on Solid Gold Oldies from the 50/60’s.

Wanda Jackson, Queen of Rockabilly, Sparkle Moore of Omaha Nebraska excelled in that too.

Susan Raye, who sang with Buck Owens.

Just adding on to those mentioned, good choices by all.

I noticed a few people mentioned Jo Stafford, some may not know who she was, she sang in the 1940s, 1950s and her version of “You belong to me” is splendid. Really, top-notch for nostalgia. I guess, the Andrews sisters and a few others might fit in that.

Ronnie Spector, probably a number of the singers for the girl groups had great vocals.

Don't think I have seen Adelle listed yet. She would make my top ten off that one great album.

Annie Lennox. “Into The West” brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Just beautiful.

I saw her at the Regency in NYC about 10 years ago. Stunningly beautiful and her voice was still amazing.

Okay, I did like that...the guitar was excellent. But she didn’t hit those crystal clear bell-like notes the way Ann did. :)

Judith Durham - Definitely

Judith Durham! How could I forget? She has a truly unique, wonderful voice and the Seekers had such a good song selection.
