Mmm No, I love Mad Max, just not this one.

And yeah it was behind Tommorland last weekend.

It was also behind a movie about girls singing...

One weekend, when Max had been out longer and was further down the wind. It’s nearly doubled Tomorrowland in both domestic and total. And yes an R rated movie in a 40 year old franchise got beat by a PG-13 (the butter zone) rated movie in a 4 year old franchise. It’s still making bank, because IT’S A GREAT MOVIE. You just need to internalize the fact that not everybody likes every great movie. You’re on the outs for Max, not the movies fault. Not even your fault. Now get over it.

Oh I am over it, because it’s forgettable and has no staying power.

Obviously.

Look at it fade.

Bye bye, bad movie, bye bye.

But here you are whining about it, on a thread about a completely different movie no less. Clearly, not over it.

Just having a conversation about it with some rabid fanboi.

We can stop talking if about it you want, it’s clear you aren’t going to agree with how crappy it was, so I don’t really see any point in further conversation.

Why don’t you go see it again, since you like it so much.

I intend to buy it. It’s a great movie. That’s why it has 98% at rotten. Sorry you didn’t like it, but like so many things it’s PEBKAC.

Have a good day sometime.

I can’t remember anything that happened in it really. I think I liked two things about it... the drum car and the pole cats. Besides that I struggled to stay awake. 2 hours of action doeisn’t mean much when I can’t even remember what any of it was about. It seriously bored the crap out of me.

I'm with you. Saw this last night same thing. Kept nodding off. When I would snap awake it was the same thing happening. Crazy guys in a car chase and fighting. That's the movie. Seen one "action" sequence in this movie you've seen the whole movie.

Yeah, that’s what kind struck me about it. It’s 2 hours of the same scene over and over and over.

Usually when me and my buddy go see a good movie, we talk about what our favorite part was. We didn’t even discuss this movie on the way home.

So I’ll ask myself what was my favorite part of Mad Max Fury Road?

The part at the end when I left ;/

It was a form of escapism. Every kid in America dreamed of finding a treasure map, and going on an adventure to find gold!

I still enjoy the movie, it's a snapshot in time where kids rode their bikes all over town, and big brothers tried to act cool, but had to watch their younger siblings.

The same theme is played over and over: Treasure Island, Narnia Chronicles, others. Kids take off on a journey seeking fortune, and gain independence along the way.

I believe a remake of the Goonies would be a failure just as Annie, Red Dawn, etc.....but I believe the theme of children seeking treasure and adventure is a timeless story.

I will say that I looked at the original Vacation and Ferris Bueller’s Day off and both have held up really well. Both scripted by John Hughes.

The first Vacation is still pretty solid. Ferris Bueller never really did it for me, I can see where it’s good but I just never connected with it.

I used to think that Ferris was too tied to Gen Xers to appeal to later generations but apparently it’s still popular with young people. It has a lot of suburban ennui and satire that I didn’t notice when I saw it as a kid.

"Seeing this movie as a child was one of those things I feel lucky to have been able to do."

Heck, I was 38 when I saw it and loved it. It's a classic. What person, young or old doesn't love a movie that offers adventure, humor, treasure maps, booby-traps, and pirate ships?

P.S. I was even hoping for a Goonies II.

I’ve never liked The Goonies either. Dave Kehr’s review is hilarious...

“More puberty blues from producer Steven Spielberg in a children’s adventure film so overloaded with Freudian imagery that the good doctor himself might feel embarrassed. A bunch of 13-year-old boys penetrate a secret “cave” in search of hidden “treasure,” and when they aren’t squeezing through tight places or being doused with water, they’re castrating statues or kicking villains in the crotch. References to Mark Twain, the Warner Brothers swashbucklers, and the Our Gang comedies hover in the background, but despite these honorable sources, it’s a charmless exercise: director Richard Donner turns the kids into shrieking ferrets, and his jumpy cutting seems to lag behind the action deliberately in a curious attempt to make the film seem more chaotic and cluttered.”
