Sunday will mark a tremendous occasion in the world of pop culture and cult classic movies. June 7 is the 30th anniversary of the Richard Donner-directed, never-say-die movie with an all-star cast, The Goonies. Hitting theaters on June 7, 1985, the film is still a favorite of so many people today and starred a number of names that went on to huge things. Lets take a look at some fun facts and trivia that you may never have known about The Goonies.

The same thing happened with Kindergartner Cop. He was asked to play a big part in that but refused.
One word, Idiot ;-(
Ed
I think Rourke is fascinating. He has a real presence, mumbles something, looks different after every part he does, and changes size, too. What he used to look like has become someone so remotely unlike that person that it’s like watching an actual train wreck. You want to but can’t look away.
I just loved Rourke as Marv in Sin City.
He narrated his part very well, guttural slow dialogue was perfect.
Just Sin City though, the second one was awful.
I loved when Mouth was telling the Spanish speaking house keeper where everything belonged!!
Bunch of random kids playing on their phones all day never interacting.
...and all while whining about the patriarchy and how cisgendered and heteronormative people are ruining the environment!
PS - i feel slightly dumber for having used "patriarchy", "cisgendered", and "heteronormative" in a sentence.
go and re-watch Tropic Thunder. he's great in that. you can tell he's having fun parodying self-absorbed actors, but you can also easily forget that it's him under all of that makeup. it's a good performance. and a funny one.
The Goonies?
Geesh, I’d thought that was all forgotten. Sure seems like it - till now.
Pretty big deal at the time, quickly forgotten and never really bothered with again soon after. I know alot of movies like that. Including Titanic.
Cisgendered is the most infuriating word ever conceived.
It make Hulk SMASH!
I’m glad I never saw “the goonies” and I’m glad to say I never will.
Yes, it was.Terry Thomas saying Blast as he came out of the tunnel cracked me up as a kid.
And Benny Hill in the tower.
The plot and characters existed for the sole purpose of setting up a massive truck chase. Basically Max 4 is saying that we all know the best 20 minutes in Mad Max history was the end of Max 2 so let’s do THAT for 2 hours. It knew what kind of movie it was and embraced it. That’s part of its brilliance. They did a Mad Max with lots of plot and characters, the third one, also known as the unwatchable one.
It’s not an awful movie. It’s just not that great. For anyone in the target audience it’s a pretty decent variant on the standard Scooby Doo plot an not a bad way to kill an hour and a half.
You know your stuff.
Thunderdome is the worst of those 3 I agree, though I do like the beginning of it.
I can’t work with the new equation. If I can’t have some basic connection with even one of the characters, then I do not even care about the action.
I mean seriously, why did they drive all the way out there? Then all the way back? Who were they again?
Dunno.
A better balance is needed. The movie didn’t work for me. It isn’t one that I and dying to see again.
It’s not really a new equation, most action movies have pretty weak premises. And really your questions are easy, they were trying to get to where Furiosa grew up before she was kidnapped. They went back because where Furiosa grew up didn’t exist anymore. And they were primarily Immortan Joe’s sex slaves.
A better balance isn’t needed. You just need to understand that not all movies work for all people and stop watching the movies you aren’t the audience for. I don’t watch horse movies, why? I don’t like them. Even the “true classics” just bore me to tears, the problem isn’t the movies, it’s me, I’m not a horse guy, I’m not a horse movie guy. You’re not an action movie guy, so don’t watch them.
Oh I like action movies.
Even low end Jason Statham movies have better scenarios and characters than this one.
Death race is better than Mad Max.
It’s pretty telling to me that Max is behind Tomorrowland. That should tell you something.
My problem with the Statham movies is they’re so repetitive, once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. Individually they’re all pretty fun, but there’s a lot of deja vu.
Sorry but you’re just wrong. Mad Max is a great action movie. The problem here is you, you’re just not a Mad Max guy. There’s no shame there, but that’s the reality.
MM is not behind Tomorrowland. It’s made more domestically, and foreign, and is projected to make more this week even though it’s been out longer.
