The fighters who've lost to Floyd Mayweather explain why he's so impossible to beat
Business Insider ^ | 04/30/2015 | Tony Manfred

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is widely regarded as the best fighter of his generation and one of the best defensive fighters of all time.

He enters his May 2 fight with Manny Pacquiao with an undefeated record of 48-0. There's a case to be made that Pacquiao, who has knocked out more opponents, can pull an upset, but most expect Floyd to win this fight the same way he has won fights for years — making his opponent miss early, timing his counters to perfection, and eventually winning on points.

There's a radical juxtaposition between Mayweather's persona out of the ring (obnoxious, offensive, appalling) and his style within it (calm, intelligent, pragmatic). Over the years the fighters who've lost to Mayweather have spoken about his boxing brilliance in glowing terms, and explained what makes him so hard to beat.

Ricky Hatton (lost by knockout, December 8, 2007):

"I was fighting a genius, a boxing artist. I was getting more and more frustrated. Lose your cool against Floyd Mayweather and what you do is you get knocked out." — to Showtime

Oscar De La Hoya (lost by split decision, May 5, 2007):

"Now we have to give credit to Mayweather because what Mayweather can do is what Mayweather Sr. calls 'walking your opponent down.' So what he does is he gets in the pocket and covers himself and he'll walk you down. And he'll let you throw punches and Pacquiao is probably going to keep throwing punches in bunches and he might tire himself out while Mayweather is just blocking everything. And then Mayweather can just come, throw his combinations of two or three punches, win the round, put the rounds in the bag, and win the fight." — to HBO

Boxing is a joke, these “boxers” wouldn’t last a minute against an MMA fighter.

To each his own I guess.....

In support of boxing, none of those MMA guys would stand a chance in a ring against a skilled boxer such as Mayweather or the PacMan......

Boxing is an art form while MMA is nothing but grappling, wrestling and punching one in the head while on the floor. There's nothing artistic about that at all.......

I'd rather watch a video of Mohammed Ali against any of his opponents than this crap called MMA.......

He’s 38 years old and commanding this big of a payoff?

Mayweather has been avoiding Pacquiao for years until now when he thinks Pacquiao is at his weakest.

And rightfully so, Manny is too involved in the political life of the Phillipines since he's a Governor there.

As much as I love Pacquiao, I think Mayweather will win the fight........I hope I'm wrong.

Manny hasn't knocked anyone out since he's been off the PEDs.

That's absolute bullshit and you know it! That was the excuse used by Mayweather back in 2012 when he tried to explain why he wouldn't fight Manny Pacquiao and was picked up by the rest of the MSM sports world .

In a response that eventually drew applause from his entourage, Mayweather once again said it is "basic common sense" that Pacquiao has used performance-enhancing drugs and getting in the ring with him would be a risk to his future health.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., the bling adorned expert on drugs...........LOL!

I’m expecting a complete dud, identical to the may weather-marquea snooze fest. Mayweather is taller and bigger than Pacquaio and will dance the entire time, keeping Manny out of range, and taking pot shots. I’ve already invested the money I’m not spending on this cure to insomnia.

I want to see Pacquaio win but if I were betting I'd take Mayweather. Mayweather is a bigger, more talented version of the counter-puncher Juan Manuel Marquez who has recently given Pacquaio fits.

I have not watched more than a half dozen matches in the last twenty years so I know nothing about either fighter.

But one thing has not changed and that is no one is at their best all of the time and in many cases that is what wins a fight between two fighters who are evenly matched.

Just saw the interview between Greta and Manny.

Greta: What kind of music do you listen to when training?

Manny: Christian inspirational

There is no question that the PacMan's Christian faith is what leads him in his life..........

I suspect that Mayweather will likely win the fight but you can't ignore the fact that Mayweather has deliberately been avoiding him for years.........
