The Secret Service has stepped out of its lane of protection to assist in another crucial task for the first family: teaching teenaged Malia Obama how to drive, CNN reports.
First lady Michelle Obama revealed the details in an interview with television cook Rachael Ray for a show that will air Thursday, CNN said.
"The Secret Service [taught her], actually, because they wouldn't let me in the car with her," Obama told Ray, adding that she hasn't been behind the wheel in several years, having been driven during her family's White House years.

You know, some people hire professionals who teach driving for a living. I know that’s a shock — but “parents” and “secret service agents” are not the only two options available to US citizens.
Dad is too busy driving the country over the cliff.

This doesn’t bother me. There’s plenty of serious taxpayer abuse that needs to be addressed other than this.

Who taught Chelsea Clinton and the Bush twins how to drive? They all would have been in the White House at 15 or 16.

I imagine the secret service would have to follow her around with a driving instructor, so it’s not really a big financial loss. Just the usual Obama audacity.

Probably because the Secret Service didn't want the overbearing witch criticizing the agent teaching the girl how to drive. Isn't she the reason the White House chef quit?
Although I do not know how much say a President, or First Lady, has in overriding the secret service, I can believe that they advised her and the President that they cannot teach their daughters how to drive.
If this was Reagan, would this be an acceptable risk in people’s minds?
I don’t recall any stories about Clinton or Bush teaching their daughters, so it must have fallen to secret service as well. There is no way the secret service have allowed a possible risky act like thus be done in a private manner.
Why does she need to learn how to drive? In reality, she will be riding in a limo the rest of her life anyway. Driving your own car is for the peons,you know.
Jenna and Barbara Bush were born November 25, 1981. They were already driving when George W. Bush started his term as President in 2001.
The Bush twins were born in 1981. They learned to drive while George W. Bush was governor in Texas.

What about Chelsea?
Most times, Chelsea appears in news reports only when she is with her parents. Her father gave her a driving lesson at Camp David last fall; when asked how it went, Chelsea told her mother, “I think he learned a few things.”
And his wife is too busy driving us crazy.
Same with the Arkansas girl.
The world is just lucky she didn't have an available cousin to marry at age 15.
Not that I have anything against Arkansas, much.
