I want a button on my Windows screen that shuts down all non-essential programs so I can devote all my processing capability to run Crusader Kings II for 3000 game years.

Why would someone install Windows on Purpose?? The only thing I can think of is the games.

I have everything mac at home but my school/work computer is a Dell but I don't have ANY admin privileges there, so is it worth it to me to get on the ping list? Also my phone is an android. Does that count? Probably not. They most likely will not be discussing much Android on the Windows list, and you will not be able to change much on your Windows school/work computer. If you are at all interested in installing a Windows instance on your Mac either in BootCamp or in a Virtual Machine, then yes, I would recommend joining. However, given what you've told me, there probably will not be much of use for you in the Windows/Microsoft ping list.
You would still be able to come onto a Windows thread and ask a question if you need to about something for your School/work Windows machine and I am sure you'd get an answer from the many fine Freeper members of the list without being a ping list member, just as other Freepers come on to FR and ask Apple Mac questions and get answers without being members of the Apple list.

Good advice, I concur with Swordmaker on his points. Of course, if you do find you're spending more time searching for Windows-related threads than you would spend deleting superfluous pings, you're welcome to join and see if it's better or worse! :)
Joining and dropping ping lists is a "No-Harm, No-Foul", offense-free operation as far as I'm concerned.

I do it, because some programs only run on Windows. I also keep a Win7 box handy for times when I need a real Windows box.

That what it cost for the Dell, and the 8.1 upgrade was free. Love 8.1, love my Nokia Lumia Icon.

I want in. I find this to be a great learning thread. :) Glad you find it helpful. That's actually the main reason I finally got off my butt and started the Windows list -- I missed the helpful advice and great comments that FReepers make when talking tech. It's a wonderful resource, with a surprisingly low level of noise.
