Upstate towns threatening to secede from New York

More than a dozen upstate towns are threatening to try to secede from New York and become part of Pennsylvania because of projected economic losses over Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s decision to ban fracking. The town leaders from New York’s Southern Tier region said they would be better off in the Keystone State after Cuomo put the kibosh on natural-gas drilling here. Towns on both sides of the state border have the same geology, but only the businesses in Pennsylvania, where fracking is allowed, have been thriving, said officials from the 15 towns in Broome, Delaware, Sullivan and Tioga counties. The group’s Upstate New York Towns Association says it is exploring secession over the issue, as well as over property taxes and low sales-tax revenue.

Threatening is a long way from able no matter how justifiable.
Do it...the leeches in ‘The City’ have been screwing the Southern Tier for decades.
These towns want to join Pennsylvania? Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire! Pennsylvania will not be an improvement.
Well there was that time when the border with Canada near Plattsburg was different..
Maybe they can become Canadians..
at least the leader is Conservative...
Not unless the majority of Pennsylvania secedes and leaves Philadelphia to stew in its own corruption.

I don’t know if it’s true or not but someone mentioned in order to secede they would ‘need the permission of noth states’? Can anyone confirm or deny that?
They will forever be the slaves of Buffalo and NYC- nothing will change that but moving away like many others are doing.

The area of New York west of New York City and the area of PA west of Philly should form a state.
T’was my thought also.
How about a new state? Northern PA towns don’t like Harrisburg and Philly any more than NY-ers like NYC/Albany. They could name it PenNY or NyPenn or Freeatlast...

Kind of weird, isn't it? I could see advocating for the Indian reservation out there (Seneca?) actually becoming an independent nation, and then that southern tier joining Ohio.
I know that sounds crazy, but OH is actually governed better and is more conservative than is PA. The addition would make OH even more conservative demographically.
Maybe we should just round up all of the “socialists” and make them stay on the reservations and give the cities to the injuns.
All of Upstate NY should rather separate from NY City and the counties immediately surrounding it.
The two places are going in absolute opposite directions
