According to his book, the .338 Lapua was Chris Kyle’s favorite caliber.

Did the first shot ricochet off the ground and hit the target? Otherwise why did it hit sideways?

I think Gibbs(NCIS) used “Lapua” ammo.

If the bullet is not spun rapidly enough by the rifling in the barrel/muzzle velocity, it will not be sufficiently gyrostabilized and may tumble.

Heck, Jerry Michuleck could do that firing over his shoulder with a .22 short! :)

“Heck, Jerry Michuleck could do that firing over his shoulder with a .22 short! :)”

He could fire 18 rounds from a revolver before the first bullet got to the target.

If you watch carefully, you can see dirt fly from the first round. So, yes, it appears to ricochet off the ground before hitting the target.

I thought it hit the ground first. Otherwise, I’d have expected the shape of (what was left of) the round to look a little different...

Did you see all the dirt the first shot kicked up? I believe it did skip.

I love 338 Lapua.
Next gun is either AI or full custom.

There's an Australian dude making similar shots with a .300 Winchester magnum on you tube. Extreme long range shooting has come a long way. I just picked up 300 cases for my 300 win mag. Now if I could only find a place to shoot it at 1,000+ yards.
