Did the first shot ricochet off the ground and hit the target? Otherwise why did it hit sideways?

If the bullet is not spun rapidly enough by the rifling in the barrel/muzzle velocity, it will not be sufficiently gyrostabilized and may tumble.

If you watch carefully, you can see dirt fly from the first round. So, yes, it appears to ricochet off the ground before hitting the target.

I thought it hit the ground first. Otherwise, I’d have expected the shape of (what was left of) the round to look a little different...
