Secret stash of Moon artifacts found hidden in Neil Armstrong's closet

After Neil Armstrong's death, his widow, Carol, discovered a white cloth bag in a closet, containing what were obviously either flight or space related artifacts. She contacted Allan Needell, curator of the Apollo collection at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, and provided photographs of the items. Needell, who immediately realized that the bag—known to the astronauts as the Purse - and its contents could be hardware from the Apollo 11 mission, asked the authors for support in identifying and documenting the flight history and purpose of these artifacts. After some research it became apparent that the purse and its contents were lunar surface equipment carried in the Lunar Module Eagle during the epic journey of Apollo 11.

Is there a catapult big enough for her to leave Earth’s orbit?

"He should have taken them to Pawn Stars."

Where he'd hear ...

"There really isn't much of a market for it. You look around this store and you see moon rocks everywhere. I'll give you $50 for it. Meanwhile, Chumlee is in the back room learning to walk on his hands."

I was at Fort Lewis in basic training, it was a Sunday and my dad came down to the visitors center with a 6-pack of coke, a bucket of chicken and a transistor radio and we listened excitedly.

I love your post!! It's a snapshot of America ... only 38 words but worth a thousand.

The guy won't sign autographs without you paying him for the privilege.

Answer; Why? I already paid for you to go to the moon.

I would have kept the stuff, or possibly sold it.

The value of those items would be priceless. Anything that has been on the Moon HAS to be worth a fortune. ESPECIALLY souvenirs from that first Moon landing!

“Of course now we are on a half-dozen or so documentable lies...they can’t bring him back except perhaps as a sort of therapeutic example of high-level burnout.”

He’s no worse than the other media slugs. I think they should bring him back, just so no one would have any excuse for not knowing that the evilstream media are, collectively and individually, willful and malicious purveyors of falsehood.

Commercialization. Nothing wrong with that at all.

He is the second guy to walk on the moon and it galls him to no end and he is a real shyster. . .IMHO.

He's been selling his autograph since he left NASA. . .well before eBay.

After my London-based aviation organization (www.airpilots.org) invited Neil to be the guest of honor and receive an aviation award (presented by Prince Philip), when Buzz found out he pressured me to try and get him, not an aviation award from my organization, but a ROYAL honor.

Not kidding.

His ego wanted to “out do” Armstrong. It was clear to all of us.

A few years ago I was living and working just up the road from the Washington State University where the “esteemed” journalism department brought in Dan Rather and awarded him their exalted “Edward R. Murrow (he once attended WSU) Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Like horndog Bill Clinton receiving the Father of the Year Award even more recently.

The Left is not only shameless, it is relentless (and merciless) as well.

She also claimed to have attempted to enlist in the Marine Corps, as I recall, only to be turned away because she was a girl.
She did claim that not knowing that the Marine Corps began taking women recruits in 1943.
As William Safire said - she's a congenital liar.

California used to look like that too, Mikey, right?

And they’re trying to “improve” on Montana just like they did out there....move to a new place to escape the old place and then vote and spend money and file lawsuits to make the new place just like the old place.

These genius newcomers just aren’t so bright sometimes.

Probably everything aboard the lander was “surveyed” (written off the books as lost) before the launch. In a high-risk mission (such as the Normandy landings), that’s not unusual. Also, the lander itself was not coming back, so perhaps they assumed that any part of it not already on a checklist (like film cartridges) would be left behind as well.

And it may be for the best that the camera didn’t surface until now...people have been incredibly careless with historic items, soon after the fact. The original videotape of the first moon landing was lost, stolen or taped over along the way...what survives now is more akin to a kinescope (recording of a TV screen image) rather than a copy of the original video.

Yes, I’ve seen the photos and the old movies.

The Golden State indeed. Such beauty, industry (in the sense of hard work) and astonishing prosperity.

Shot to hell in 25 years of Leftists and Mexicans.
