I used to enjoy several talk shows in my area on terrestrial radio stations.I listened to various local talk shows about politics and social issues. In the last three of four years little by little, almost all of my favorite shows have been ended, and replaced by Infomercials, Finance shows and Vitamin Advice for Health Maintenance. I don't mind listening to any of those replacement shows once in a great while, but when those are the only choices, I feel deprived of good radio.
I keep hearing that 'Terrestrial Radio is Dead!" almost no one in the high spending demographic ( 20 to 40 years old) listens to it, preferring instead to tune in online. If I listen to a radio station online, on my laptop, I will be tempted to keep looking into the internet and read the news as I already do. I'd rather keep both mediums seperate. Best Buy and Target will be my first stops to see the product. Best Buy staff is usually very helpful and polite. Any suggestions on a low cost, easy to assemble and use satelite radio. Do any of these satelite radio also play CD music, or am I being a little too 'old school' here?
I like my little Sirius radio. Works well, plays a wide assortment of music and talk shows. Pretty inexpensive.
That’s all I want, news and talks shows about politics, society and the paranormal, with a little Animal News thrown in. I also like to know who I’m listening to. I want the announce to have a face and personality, not just a functioning automaton.
I have no advice on satellite radio systems. But just want to chime in that terrestrial radio has changed for the worse. On weekends, it seems that all the AM stations have infomercial programs for vitamins or health products. And these programs run All day long.
On FM, the music stations seem to have much more commercisl time than they used to. And it seems that they have narrowed their playlists so much that you hear the same songs over and over. I’m not talking about top 40 type stations which have heavy rotation of current hits. I mean stations such as classic rock or easy listening play the same oldies constantly.
Sorry to vent here. But I find myself listening to radio less and less due to these reasons.
Ditto on the Sirius radio. I have the full subscription in the car, but the house only has the limited 10-channel subscription. It’s inexpensive, and using an AC/DC dock, it’s even usable when the power is out.
If you want your subscription money being used to fund perverts like Howard Stern and Playboy, go ahead and get Sirius XM, they have one (so-called) “conservative” channel among all the pure crap.
You are better off using an internet radio service, you will have endless amount of choices
You can always stream via the internet. As long as wifi is available you can use a smartphone, tablet or laptop. Here’s a good source for stations; http://streamingradioguide.com/
I second iHeartRadio. I use it a lot. Rush, Dave Ramsey, a few select others.
Sirius XM is great. $ 22 bucks a month over 100 channels. The music selection is great, and best part...NO COMMERCIALS. Get the home docking station just pop radio receiver out of car and plug in at home.
News, traffic, weather, talk, sports, wide music selection.
Shoot, I haven’t had terrestrial radio in my house for close to a decade now. I use a stiletto Sirius receiver with a home docking station (that’s ancient, you’ll need whatever the current version is). I use a separate Pyle Pro amplifier to drive my speakers.
I use a standalone ‘radio’ software on my desktop and laptop. It has some local and well-known national radio stations.
I suppose I just have to get used to doing things in a different way. I tried before but didn’t have much luck. I’ll try again a be patient. I used to ask my Dad to ‘go with the flow, now it’s my turn.

So, let me get this straight; even after the expense of buying a Satelite Radio for home use, I will still need to PAY for a SUBSCRIPTION? I will be in hock to ‘somebody’ for approx. $20. a month!! I think that concept is what made me reject the satelite method years back when it began.
Is there a way to get some kind of variety of talk shows without being on the hook month after month, or is that just the way the system works? These are some of the questions I’d be too embarrassed to ask a sales clerk who probably grew up with this being the main method of getting radio.

Okay first of all Howard Stern isn’t on any basic package. It’s an add on subscription.
2nd, Playboy radio... I mean... Playboy..... radio. Think about those two words together.
Sirius is crap. The music is so compressed that it hurts your ears to listen to it. There is only one conservative talk station. My advice is to just get a Bluetooth receiver and stream from your phone.
How about internet radio?
