Well NASA has been experimenting with wing warping on a modified F-18. Perhaps their ideas were too far ahead of their time to be practical.

IMHO anything that wont work without an additional century of technology to even make it experimental is just, in practical terms, a dead end idea at the time it was conceived.
Since i live on an airpark and am current this very thing is above my dining room table.
