It has been my take, that at least some women like the rugged guy look. Most guys don't like that look in their woman.

Absolutely. I'd agree that is the explanation for some older men's ability to attract younger women. (And I say that as a woman myself.) Money and power have something to do with it, too.

But, these women I know - I guess they're cougars, really, lol - tend to stay young-looking. They complain that men their age have pot bellies. Another woman once complained to me that men her age "act old," talk about their ailments too much, and never want to have any fun.

Yeah, life is grand. And eventually we all grow older... if we're lucky. ;-) Some just grow older more slowly than others.

I wonder why women are not more insulted by the insinuation that an “older woman” is not a suitable mate for a man her own age.

I'm sure many women are frustrated by it ... but then reality intrudes, and there is not much point in being "insulted" by reality. The human species is hard-wired in certain respects. This is one of them.

We may live in a society in which the powers that be decree that gender is an arbitrary social construct, but that still isn't going to make a guy pick up the phone.
