I wont disagree with you there. I now need to travel there regularly for business. The poverty is overwhelming. Since I am there on business, I live very well compared to the vast majority of natives. Unlike the locals, I just can’t close my eyes t the things I see that are just so wrong.

7. Jamaica: ‘I will never go back’

I spent a summer there as a teen, my dad was working to onboard a textile company that his employer had purchased. We were put up in a nice townhouse with walled courtyard right in Kingston owned by the Harvard-educated Jamaican man who had sold the company. This was late 70's.

Most of the city itself was filthy. There was a big ravine that everybody dumped their garbage into, that washed right out into the bay with every hard rain, and you'd pray for rain during an infrequent dry spell, the stench could get overwhelming. Jamaican men had the disturbing habit of urinating right into the street, regardless of passing cars or maybe because of it, never did quite follow the logic. Roving bands of children would steal things from you on the beach to sell back for dollars, you couldn't leave a thing on the sand to go for a swim anywhere. Even then, you had to be careful driving up in the hills, go down the wrong road and into the drug kingpins territory, you might not come back.

But, Jamaica had it's charms. Jerk chicken roasted over a fire in a 55 gallon drum was alarming, but everywhere and people were buying it, so we got up the nerve to try and it was good. The natural beauty, the waterfalls. Most Jamaicans spoke good English and were friendly, decent people.

That may not be the case now, but it was at the time. I enjoyed my time there.

I’ve always warned people to avoid LA

Of course. It's a cesspool.

the California you revile is the land of nuts and fruits, where even the weather is queer. The nuts and fruits control the government, there, and dominate election of the California congressional delegation. Most of my guns would be illegal in Kalifornia. The industry I work in is fleeing Kalifornia, for good reason. Kalifornia deserves to be reviled.

Yosemite, love sequoia and Kings Canyon.

Lovely spots. Too bad they're in Kalifornia.

My favorite state: UTAH

Which is, by definition, NOT Kalifornia.

Hmmm ....

Almost any deployment.

I remember an old Sinbad comedy show. He said he was young and saw commercials for, "Join the Air Force. See the world!" He signed up. Then he said, "They sent me to Wichita, Kansas for two years.!"

She’s lived there forever and never went?

Heck, that one is just stunning.

Good for you and her.

Little known tidbit: Filoli is the mansion used as the home for that great 1980’s TV series “Dynasty”.

Also the home of the main character (Michael Douglas) in the 1997 movie "The Game."

Ahhh!

You gotta come back for a visit!

You won’t believe what we’ve done with the place.

LOL

Stonehenge by bicycle in 1965. Forty miles from Cricklade on Sunday afternoon. Well worth the effort, no fence, was able to roam around the rocks. Scenic hilly surrounding area with no visible residents. Learned later that it had been a WWll bombing training range.

Oh yeah! And I’d always have to get a big steak at Texas Land & Cattle, too.

Bears Paw Battlefield south of Chinook, Montana, is very evocative—scene of the surrender of the Nez Perce Indians after their 1300-mile trek (they thought they had made it across the border into Canada). Chief Joseph’s speech when he surrendered is a classic. Very remote location, 10 or 15 miles off U.S. 2.

They are right about LA, but take the 30 mile drive north
to Simi Valley and visit the Reagan museum and all will be made well.

Myrtle Beach, of course my personal idea of a vacation is to get AWAY from mobs of people.

A bunch of idiots. I liked 4 out of 5 for sure. Ok Stonehenge is a bit underwhelming but I sure as hell glad I went. I absolutely loved Hollywood. Very exciting city. Paris is incredibly fun and interesting. The Pyramids I absolutely loved them. I went down into them in fact. Rode a camel and did all kinds of things. What a dump person this creeper is.
