True. But today's well-behaved visitors may be the group that makes my neighborhood safe against other groups. Today's well-behaved traders may be the ones who take things I have in excess and give things that I value far more. There are risks in both directions.
What lesson should we draw from that parable in relation to the current discussion?
When folks tell me that, I just point them to the local “Church of Later Day Saints.” I tell them that they would be much safer interacting with a charitable people than they will be in dealing with me.
VietVet, You are absolutely right. And you’re exactly the kind of guy I’d want in my survival community. Thanks for a great post with thoughtful commentary. (I’m not dissing OP. He makes some good points. A prepper can’t support every leech that shows up on his doorstep. But prepping is long term thinking and preparedness and your post takes it a step further.)
