Pete should be in the HOF for his baseball accomplishments as a PLAYER. Pete should NOT be allowed back in baseball due to his betting as a manager.
Exactly right. I don't see why this is so difficult.

No. No for so many reasons. The primary reason is Rose knowingly broke the cardinal rule of baseball with full knowledge of the rule and the consequences of breaking it. Have a problem with PEDs? Rose used PEDs: Greenies (baseball lingo for amphetamines).
Rose himself agreed to the lifetime ban from MLB and, therefore, the lifetime ban from the HOF.
Have some of you forgotten why Rose agreed to the lifetime ban?

There's a thing but meaningful distinction at play.
Pete Rose was not banned for life.
Pete Rose agreed to be banned for life and did so for at least one reason we all should be expected to know.

There IS no Baseball Hall of Fame without Pete Rose. I will never visit it until after he’s inducted.

When you can convince me that President Obola belongs on Mount Rushmore then you can talk to me about Charlie Boxcars getting into the HOF.
Until then...save your breath.
To: Baynative
I agree - Pete Rose needs to be in the Hall of Fame.

Pete Rose belongs in the hall of fame WRONG!
The late Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame.
He's not "the late" yet?
Tough!

As long has he bet on himself, and not against himself, what’s the harm?

This probably one of the most divisive issues that ever comes up on this website and the opinions are usually set in stone. I separate what he did for the game while he was playing and how he inspired future players from all the allegations, hearsay and personal conflicts that have played out over the years.
Where I would be of an opposite mind is if it had been proven that he bet against his own team while managing and made decisions in the game to influence the outcome. Yes, using inside information is walking a fine line and if he had a gaming affliction he should have bet on other sports. But, I still see a separation and though he's not got the reputation of George Brett or Cal Ripkin, he's always a standout to me because of his heart and love for the game.
Now that I've said love for the game, I've opened the door to comparisons with wife beaters. Like I said, this is divisive ...seriously so.

The poll is holding steady at 84% to 16% - indicating that the fans are strongly in favor of letting him in. Much of the opposition is coming from sports writers who can’t lift a 34” bat.

Because of the “BLACK SOX” scandal in baseball, the sport specifically forbade “BETTING” on the games you are to play in. Pete Rose knew the rules, but he thought he wasn’t going to get caught. Sorry Pete, but you knew what you were doing. You weren’t just an innocent bystander. YOU PLAY BY YOUR RULES, YOU DIE BY YOUR RULES.

Joe Jackson isn’t in the HoF and for the same reason.
He had every advantage in life and threw it away to bet on baseball. He should NEVER be in the HoF.

My respect for Rose vanished after he barreled into catcher Ray Fosse at home plate, a hit that essentially ended Ray's career. Fosse would play again, but he was never the same. Rose never even visited Ray in the hospital. Now that is class for you. I could care less about Pete Rose. Let the ban stand.
