Award-winning US stage and screen actor Neil Patrick Harris will host the next Oscars show, organizers announced Wednesday.
The star, who has hosted both Broadway's Tony and TV's Emmy awards shows in the past, will front the 87th Academy Awards on February 22, said the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The high-profile hosting job is a prime gig in Hollywood, at the climax of its annual awards season. Harris will follow Ellen DeGeneres last year and a who's who of showbiz over the decades.
"It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year's Academy Awards," said the star of 2005's "How I Met Your Mother," in an Academy statement.
"I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show," added Harris, whose latest film "Gone Girl" came out this month in the United States.

It might not be so bad if they can have him drinking a Heinekin with no pants on. That way he won’t be able to appear on the TV screen. That commercial he does is one of the dumbest I’ve ever seen. It figures they’d have a homo advertising to other homos that he’s not wearing any pants.

I have been watching the old StarGates, Star Trek: DS9, Voyager etc... We cut the Cable and satellite and I am saving about $1000. per year.

I’ll check that out. Thanks for the info. I saw today online that HBO is going to “broadcast” online. This means someone wouldn’t need cable TV to watch it as far as I can tell. This might finally be the beginning of the end of the strangle hold over access for cable channels.

The last Oscar Awards had a Lesbian as host, so why not a gay guy this time? In 2016, maybe it will be Trannie, Ru Paul anyone?
Well they tried James Franco and Seth McFarlain who are straight and everyone hated them. So they put Ellen back and had the highest rating ever. Now I don’t know if NPH will help or hurt the ratings. I think all Oscars are dependent on the movies nominated.
