At the end of the exchange Seigel seemed more concerned with avoiding panic than the truth.

The New York Times had an article about the grand new tactic of taking temperatures of African arrivals at five US airports. Even they admitted that measure could not possibly catch more than a very few of those who might be suffering from ebola, and that it was mostly started to help avoid panic.

Our government is too stupid to realize that all their almost useless measures, nonsensical statements and reassurances on the issue is what's most likely of all to cause panic in the public.

Capitol idea! And since a quarantine would do so much damage to their economy that implies that there is actually an economy there to damage and.... CAMPAIGN FUNDS!

He should go and mingle with the common folk with whom he shares a common kinship, go on Safari, live it up, we will pay the bills if he will just go and take all of his entourage with him.

How does “extensive interaction” with Duncan qualify one for the “low risk” group?

What’s the deal? I read your links earlier on my Android tablet. When I try to pull them up on the laptop, the links are dead. I can still get it on my tablet, though.

The temperature taking bit is so stupid I have to think about it for a minute to comprehend just how far the stupidity goes.

So you find an infectious person what then?

What about all the people who have been in the sealed aluminum tube with him for the last many hours? What about them now?

Are you going to send the person back to where he came from in another sealed aluminum tube with other persons?

Who pays for the treatment and where and how is it done?

Such obvious stupidity will not go without horrible consequences.

workers who'd been involved in nuclear or biological decontamination would take a special shower before removing their hazmat suits. I wonder if these hospital workers are showering to decontaminate their protective suits before removing them?

This is the level of protection that should be taken.

Is the average hospital setup to provide this? NO! Most ICUs have a negative pressure room with a small anteroom where you can wash your hands and gown up. They are not set up to do a full Hazmat decontamination.

These patients should be cared for in mobile prefab trailers where Hazmat decontamination can be set up. Most Hospitals are not designed to provide this level of care.

The other problem with this disease is that it engages the most well trained personnel in the hospital, the ICU staff. It takes 2 - 3 years to train an ICU doctor if you continually expose this talent to a highly communicable disease how long do they last? Who in their right mind would take on the extra years of training to take their place?

Ebola will likely be contained in the US, however there is the small possibility that it does get out of control. Because of that small possibility every precaution should be taken. Which means revoking issued visas for anyone in west Africa. Intercepting any West African traveler that does arrive here and placing them in immediate quarantine and after quarantine return to their country of origin. Set up Ebola treatment centers where patients are sent to keep them out of our main Hospitals.

Personnel that are treating an Ebola patient are required to live onsite until such time they have passed quarantine limits before they are allowed to return to the general public.

“one little slip is all it takes...” but it is very hard to contract Ebola?

Does not compute.... CPU going into overload.... over heating.... illogical premise.... shutting down.

“Such obvious stupidity will not go without horrible consequences.”

CDC head says - all future cases will be because of a breach in protocols and protocols are really hard.....

They are still selling, as of 11:21 am EDT 10/12/14, the concept that wearing PPE makes you "low risk".

Brother, can you spare a paradigm?

All to often we can tease the truth out of what the media does NOT report and by politicians’ denials.

Another key question is when do those infected with ebola become contagious. I've heard several 'experts' say that a person is contagious only after they begin to show symptoms. I think it is agree that, the more the infection spreads, the more contagious a person becomes.

But, when do they become contagious? This from one site:

Even if a person exhibits no signs or symptoms of Ebola, he or she can still spread the virus during the incubation period. Once symptoms begin, the person can remain contagious for about three more weeks.

Ebola Incubation Period

I don't know if that sites is correct, but I do bet that our government is, once again, just telling us something to avoid panic, whether or not they have sound scientific evidence to support it.
