Police received a call for an “unknown trouble” at a Toronto Community Housing Corp. home at Winchester Street and Rose Avenue in Cabbagetown, where they saw bystanders “screaming and yelling” while trying to pry the pit bull away from the shih tzu.
“The policeman was hitting the dog so hard with his baton that it flung out of his hands but the pit bull would not let go,” said Samantha Thornton, a resident in the area. She said the owner of the shih tzu was in “hysterics.”
According to Ms. Thornton, police shot the dog twice in the leg and when it still didn’t release the shih tzu, they shot it in the head.

Residents in the neighbourhood told the National Post that pit bulls were bred in the building. Pit bull breeding has been illegal since the 2005 Dog Owner’s Liability Act and owners can face a $10,000 fine and six months jail time for noncompliance.

I've heard that many times.
Total BS.
Now if one breeds a Pit Bull Terrier or an American Stafford-shire Terrier to a Gila Monster, then on just has to wait until sundown and it’ll release its grip.
I want to see the breeding record before I put any credence to this report.

Not going to complain about THIS “Coop shoots Dog” Story.
If the story is factual the cop was 10000% justified in blasting away that dog.

I agree. This time it looks like the shooting was justified.
However, it's a myth that pit bulls have locking jaws.
Grab both hind legs and pull. Even a bull dog will turn loose usually.

I will. It was wrong to torture the dog by shooting it in the leg. Misbehaving pit bull? Shoot it in the head or vitals until you are sure it's dead. Save one for the owner in case a reasonable opportunity presents itself.
Toronto Community Housing Corp. I assume this is government housing. Does the story mention race?
And on those occasions when they do not -- you shoot them twice in the leg and if they still hold on, shoot them in the head.

But what about the shih tzu? At least the Pit Bull has
worth for something, that shih tzu is plain worthless.
They are like muslims. they walk up all happy and wagging
their tail acting friendly and when your guard is down

Pit Bulls and muzzies. I don’t trust either one. I heard some of each are moderates but it’s hard to tell which is which.

Ever try just yelling at them. Usually that works if you
can get them to acknowledge you that is otherwise
you have to choke them out.
