Thinking of Moving to Boulder...
My fevered brain | Madmominct

Posted on 09/25/2014 2:36:54 PM PDT by madmominct

I know it may be insane, but I'm thinking of moving to Colorado, Boulder specifically. Do any of you live there and do you think it's possible for a 62-year-old single female Conservative to live happily there? My reasons are that I hear it's beautiful, closer to my family in Los Angeles (but I don't want to live in Calif), has seasons and is a place I haven't lived before. I want to start over in a new place. Unfortunately it's a nest of libs, but where isn't? Just wondering - SOMEONE out there in Freeperland must live there! Thanks in advance for your thoughts and info.

I live near Boulder.
When I go into that county or city, I need a hot shower when I get home.

PURE NANNY STATE in Boulder County.

Try just a little further north or south.
Berthoud, Loveland, Castle Rock...are all much better Conservative friendly areas. Weld County and Larimer County.

IF you can stomach the nanny state well enough, there are super restaurants, music, fairs and all that sort of thing...but there are signs everywhere to watch out for pedestrians, no dogs, no smoking, no running...you get the idea...

Thank you -That is exactly what I was thinking - the beauty, the culture, and the whacko libs could be my clients. Although they’re happy when high, they have to come down eventually - and I could be their therapist and who knows - help them with their delusionary thinking!

Well, I’m about to get a MA in counseling, so they could be my future clients!

Do you have the hours for the license? CO is very strict about it. One of the strictest states about what an MA is allowed to do.

Dallas/Ft Worth - yes Texas is appealing for the conservatism but too hot for me.

I seem to remember Rush holding an event there. I lived in Colorado Springs for 3 years, lots of military there.

If you can consider golden only 20 miles down the road. My son started attending the Colorado school of mines recently, so I’ve visited. Also the city council voted to not allow pot shops. I know that’s no big deal but the vibe I got was more crunchy con not leftist.

Conservatives can live joyfully enjoy anywhere in the USA.

And you will be close to Golden, CO where Coors is made. And the fresh stuff is very good.

Everything is air conditioned and it is cool in the Fall, Winter and early Spring. I’m over 300lbs so you know I don’t like heat. There is so much to do here and so many cities and suburbs to choose from. I was born in Denver but I won’t live there.

We’ve had a summer home in the mountains west of Denver since the late ‘80s. Of the three, Colorado Springs has a large conservative / pro military population. I’d look there first.

Side note: Coloradans used to grumble about Texans. When the Californication began, all that stopped. Saw a sign some years ago that said: “At least the Texans went home after ski season”.

Thanks so much for the suggestions of other towns. I suppose the nanny state atmosphere might remind me of Berkeley, which was oppressive when I left there in 1978. I guess I’ll just have to go out and see it.

If you can stand liberals, wackos, and druggies you got a chance.

But you are only an hour away from the Real America in Laramie, Wyo. or Fort Morgan, Colo.

No I don’t - was thinking I could find a job out there and accumulate the hours. Funny, because I was also told that it was one of the most lax states about licensure - that you could pretty much hang out a shingle and call yourself a therapist (not that I would do that).

That's why God created Air conditioning. Winter in D/FW is much more tolerable than most other areas, and cost of living is very reasonable.
