Megyn Kelly Gets Her History Wrong

Posted on 07/18/2014 9:07:56 AM PDT by 7thson

Anyone catch Megyn Kelly last night? She led with the shot down airliner. Whem mentioning the 1983 Korean plane that was shot down, she stated "accidently shot down by the Russians."

Two things wrong -

One - the Reagan administration had the goods and played the recording at the UN. The Soviets knew it was a civilian aircraft and shot it down anyway. Nothing accidental about it.

Two - she can't even say Soviets. President Reagan did not say Russians - he said Soviets.

What is wrong with these people?

With due respect, no. She is gorgeous, but I've never seen any real evidence of smarts, or courage.

You claim to be smart and witty and I've never seen any evidence of that.

Say something original and funny!

yes Megyn is getting more shrill and harder to take

Yeah ... especially when she does a lead on segment with BOR ... then comes on immediately after the O'Reilly Factor. Less is more ... her shrill delivery is grating. After she launched on former V/P Dick Cheney in a recent interview my estimation of her tanked.

I agree. This is one of our biggest problems. We trash the only people who give our side the time of day. Part of the problem with these shows is that the format is loaded up with commercials and it makes the hosts have to push guests to get the facts out quickly before the segment is over. The guests for the most part understand that, but it does annoy people watching because they want to hear more.

Is FOX perfect? Is FOX conservative? The answer is No, but if it was not for FOX, people on our side wouldn’t get the time of day. The left despises FOX because they know FOX is at the top in viewers. They know that FOX is able to influence and expose what other networks will not.

I really don’t get the Kelly hate. All FOX hosts have to allow both sides. Fair and balanced you know.

True, the plane wasn't accidentally shot down, but it's still a little murky who knew what and when. The pilot knew it was a Boeing 747, but claimed it didn't matter as it could well have been re-purposed for military use. He also claimed that he didn't tell ground control that it was a 747.

Megyn should have known more about the real story, but you can certainly find the idea that the Soviets "accidentally" shot down the plane on the Internet, on the theory (I suppose) that if the Soviets had known it wasn't a spy flight they wouldn't have acted as they did. I don't buy that idea, but don't see much to be gained by getting on Megyn's case.

FWIW, Wikipedia says that Richard Nixon was booked for the flight, but decided not to go.

Sorry, should be recce KC-135, not 707, in my above

KC-135's don't do reconnaissance. They do aerial refueling. They are based off of the Boeing 707 platform. Rivet Joint is also based on the 707, which is the RC-135.

Actually they are recce modified KC-135s. That’s how they started life, before they were converted. Many retained the boom operators station, although the boom had been removed.

The -135 and 707 are different airfames with a common ancestor, the Boeing Dash 80. The 707 was, in USAF service, used as the basis for the C-137 (including those used in the Air Force One role), the E-3 Sentry and E-8 JSTARS. It’s also used as the basis for the Navy E-6 Mercury airborne command and control aircraft.

All of the converted KC-135’s either crashed or are retired.
