"If I only could have one rifle, it certainly would not be a .22" Even an American 180?

It would be a BRNO model 452 .22LR with several spare mags.
I have an old Remingtonm 552 Speedmaster which shoots short, Longs and LR. I have never fired anything but LR in it and it has never, not even once even acted like it wanted to jam or misfire. It is a bit more accurate than usual too.
The reason for the BRNO is they are always very accurate and durable.

After growing up with my Rem512, when I bought an AR7 it was not near as accurate as what I expected a 22 to be, so I sold it.
For only 1 rifle, I would choose a bolt action, such as the Rem700 and with reloading I could use it for small and large game

We'll all be scrounging for squirrels, rabbits and the like.Stalking and shooting is not very efficient, calories expended vs calories taken in. Besides informing the "neighbors" where you are, it's a waste of ammo. Think trap lines for small game.

Her rifle is a Mosin Nagant...she used it to bring down a moose, BTW.

Depends on where a person is. For example, in country thick with bears, a shotgun with slugs (not a rifle, but anyway...) or a Marlin in 45-70 might be important.

I suspect that in a scenario that extreme, for a substantial period of time "foraging" is going to consist of people taking from other people and people protecting what they have. Going to be a lot of dead people before trapping becomes viable (without getting shot).

Whats on her chin? The rifle looks like a Mauser ... but I could be wrong Tattoo. She's from a show called "Life Below Zero" and lives up near the Arctic Circle. She carries several rifles, but the one I've seen her use most is the Mosin Nagant. She and her family are subsistence hunters. Nothing goes to waste. They use what they can and barter as much as possible for the rest. Not a bad way to live.

As regards hunting, I imagine in a real collapse the game that requires more than 22LR will be hunted to near extinction in a short time. We'll all be scrounging for squirrels, rabbits and the like. In a real collapse here in the USA, human numbers will diminish much more rapidly than the wildlife population.

She be carrying a Mosin Nagant hex receiver rifle. Possibly a m91. Maybe a 91/30 or a Finnish M39 which used Mosin hex receivers
