Who wants to spend 33% of their working time working as a tax slave for the takers?
I believe it, some of them work here!
I tell my daughter who is looking for a better job, that she doesn’t need to worry so much about if her skills are sufficient, with a history of just showing up every day is a bigger plus anymore. You can train someone who is there every day.
I’ve experienced this first hand, the younger they are the less attuned to being on time or even showing up they are, especially mid-twenties age group. It’s not just laziness or irresponsibility per se, these are college graduates in some instances. Oh, I had to go get a haircut this morning, sorry. Or, oh, I just wanted to go to the beach for a few days, sorry. Then they turn up afterwards still expecting to have a job, genuinely surprised that there’s some sort of problem over disappearing for days with no word from them whatsoever.
I just quit a retail job after 3 weeks. Why? No training - absolutely none - and the boss they assigned me to had not taken a bath in - oh, maybe a month? Plus, a busted computer. But the worst was having no idea what I was doing while feral customers were showing slavering teeth and gums!
I’m generally a very hard worker, extremely punctual, but I was not going to put up with nonsense.
Note to employers: you get as good as you give.
Businesses will, however, continue targeting their older employees for forced retirement or layoff.
W was the only Preezy in the last 20+ years who wasn’t perpetually late.
If Preezies don’t have to be on time — why should anyone else?
employers are having trouble finding people with advanced computer and interpersonal skills, punctuality, and reliability - who are willing to work for minimum wage.
Many of my students fall into this category, with the exception of the Asians....they are on time, sit in the front row and are prepared to answer classroom questions.
Just some more propaganda to bring in more foreign guest workers who can do jobs Americans can’t do.
I have noticed to same thing.
I have two TOP priorities when it comes to hiring someone:
1. will they actually show up.
2. can I trust them to not steal from me.
those 2 criteria alone eliminate 90% of everyone I consider.
After I have hired them I have 1 more eliminator... will they actually work
That one eliminates nearly everyone else.
forget wanting someone competent, or who even speaks English! It’s nearly impossible to meet the above most basic criteria.
Spoke with someone from a company with a plant in western Maryland who told me 2/3 of their applicants can’t pass a pre-employment drug screen.
They just need the proper wake up call. My first real job was for a boss who not only wanted punctuality, he wanted you to be early. (no he was not Tom Coughlin). During my first month I was 10 minutes late one day and the senior VP ushered me into his office. Asked what the problem was which I stated I had over slept. He called me over to his wondow and from that vantage point we could see a bunch of people milling about. He said they are looking for your job. There was a recession in the early 60’s. I said, I get the message and no I will not be late again. Not there, not anywhere.
Why would anyone show up for work when welfare pays $30,000 a year?
From my experience, basic interpersonal skills, ethics, motivation are severely lacking among Americans. This leaves a big wide opening for non-native-born-Americans to come here, practice those skills, and succeed on the job.
Coming here to do the jobs that many Americans don’t know how to do.
The truth hurts. Get used to it.
as mick jagger says...
I don’t have
a full time job..
i don’t need the aggrivation..
i’m a lazy slob
i hang fire..
bkmk
I’ve seen job adds like this though:
- Must have 10 years experience in circuit board design
- Must have 10 years C/C++ programming
- Must have 10 years Java programming
- Must have 10 years in real time operating systems
- Must be fluent in English and German
- Must know Android/iOS/Linux frameworks
- Must have 10 years writing device drivers
- Must have 10 years writing application software
- Must be fluent in middleware framework technologies for audio/video/graphics/networking/etc....and have 10 years experience working with them.
- ETC!!!
...job pays $80,000/yr.
I shook my head and figured “good luck”. Even if such a person existed I don’t think $80K is even a serious offer, that alone would scare anybody off.
I don’t deal with 20 somethings from here, most of the engineers under me are in other countries (not my choice), they work hard - although their lack of experience shows, mainly in wanting any decisions made for them.
My son is in this age group, although he’s a Marine and has witnessed the requirements of corporate America as I work from home and have to travel frequently - I wonder how many of these kids have a dad at home pushing them?
It’s not that businesses are having trouble finding people. It’s that they are having trouble finding people they don’t have to spend money on training.
many people that have to get up in the morning. shower, and stick on their pants are tired. After work they stop in a store and watch the ebt crowd loading up carts with the goodies the poor working guy has to deliver for his labor, he becomes disgusted and angry.
