Chick-fil-A has surpassed KFC as the top chicken fast food chain.
Chick-fil-A's sales in 2013 passed $5 billion, compared with KFC's $4.2 billion, reports Venessa Wong at Bloomberg Businessweek.
Chick-fil-A has 1,775 U.S. stores, while KFC has 4,491. Despite a smaller footprint, Chick-fil-A's average sales are more than triple those of its larger competitor, Wong writes.
And Chick-fil-A achieves these results despite being closed on Sundays for religious reasons.
Wong illustrates a couple of reasons for Chick-fil-A's success.

There is a Chick-fil-A operator near my office who is a lesbian.
Chick Fil A restricts franchise owners to one unit. The owner must also work at the unit.
KFC, McDonalds, Wendy’s and other franchisees often own multiple units and are uninvolved in the day to day operations.
Chick Fil A owners are very carefully screened by the company before they can purchase a restaurant. It is not just a financial transaction, character and lifestyle also counts. Many Chick Fil A franchise owners are devout Christians who take the faith seriously and live it.
I don't know about the price. Chic Filet is more expensive. But the food is pretty good (for any restaurant). The people working there are friendly, smart, considerate and professional. The stores are clean. And they do a considerable amount for their communities with charities, food drives, local school support, etc. I have always been amazed by two things. (1 They are constantly packed and 2) With all the money it seems they give to all the local charities and schools, I don't know how they can turn a profit.
They must pay workers more as well. I say this because the characters that work at any Chic Filet are of a superior caliber (by far) than any other "fast food chain" and most restaurants in general even though they are virtually all high school kids. Apparently it is hard to get a job at Chic Filet (around here).
When we have to get fast food, I do always look for a Chic Filet first. Besides, I like their approach to business, customers, politics and religion. Happy to spend money there. THAT's why they are successful.
I agree but the lady in their commercials annoys me.
nuggets/strips is what we usually get.
So does the Military and Catholic Church.
The PEACH MILKSHAKE!!!!!

Well, there ya go... as long as they don’t sue and insist that the company pay for benefits for their “married” partner, they should be alright.
It’s the activists making a big deal out of it.
And the Help is always incredibly polite.
Me neither. I once saw several employees go through a crowded store with a lost and found box. There was an earring and a toddlers shoe they were looking for the owners of. Both were claimed. It was like a magic trick.
Except for the Chicken Pot Pie, I quit KFC when they changed the cooking oil for their original recipe, you can’t tell the original from the crunchy now.
Exactly!
Exactly. I would say it is the best salad with chicken I have ever had.
I’m on my first fast day this week of the 5:2 diet and this thread is food porn to me.
and franchisers too
I remember getting home, opening up the sides and literally there were, maybe, two tablespoons of product in each. The container to hold them had to have costs 4 times as much as the 'food'.
It was bizarre.
