“It doesnt crash. It doesnt need support.”
Wow...Well you go right ahead with that. I’m sure a 2001 Ford Taurus has similar god-like attributes.
Yep.
And as support wains there will likely be a boat load of nefarious providers that will fill the void.
How long is Apple going to hang on to OSX?
Steam has started porting games to Linux.
XP is becoming a security risk so I replaced my FIL's XP with Linux Mint w/Cinnamon. I couldn't get it to work with my printer but he never prints anything so it doesn't matter. Mint runs nice on his old comp.
I’ve got no doubts that your 2001 Ford has some issues.
But my ‘69 Chevy Nova still runs fine.
I don’t need a “compass”, I don’t need “ABS”, I don’t need an “I-tunes plug-in”, I don’t need an OS that tries to “predict” what I want to do.
I can “Parallel Park”.
Reality:
Win 8.1 is neither as good nor as bad as people claim.
I prefer Win 7. I use XP at work and Win 8.1 at home. They all work fine.
Granted I cheated a little bit, I use Start 8 on the home machine.
Love my little T100 too. Tried using the micro HDMI port to hook it up to my HDTV to watch a movie on iTunes over the weekend and it worked like a charm. Now I know that I can hook it up to a monitor and with a USB/bluetooth keyboard I’ll basically have something that functions like a full desktop computer if I ever needed one. The battery life is amazing too!
“Also, it looks like OSX edges out Microsofts big turkey Vista by only a teeny percentage but their market share is approximately equal. Facts are facts. That probably hurts a little if youre an Apple fanboi. Especially the Vista thing.”
It doesn’t surprise me at all. McDonald’s sells more burgers than Five Guys, or any other burger place.
As it turns out, they aren’t better. They are bigger. People like the sugar McDonald’s adds to their buns and to their meat.
Does that make them better? Nope.
Still, I’d prefer Five Guys or the local restaurant in town here... If that makes me a Five Guys fanboi, no problem.
I recommend a Targus 3.0 USB hub at Office Depot to increase your 3.0 USB to four 3.0 USB ports. About $55.
I have a Corsair Voyager 32gb USB stick for back up and use a keyboard, touchpad and can charge my phone on the remaining usb port.
Depends on how you define “operating system.”
I manage a bunch of websites, and Apple’s iOS is the operating system of choice for most visitors. About 37.3% of visitors to Allen West’s website, for example, are from iOS, and 34.6% are from Windows. Android is next at 21.4%, and Mac OSX comes in a mere 5.5% ...
Cool. I’m using the micro SD slot on the tablet for extra storage that I can dump to a standalone hard drive when it fills up. The 16GB card cost around $20 - you can get them with up to 64GB of storage but those get kind of pricey. Neat little machine!
Why don’t they just admit that with XP, they got it about right? They should start selling XP again, and keep supporting it.
Just got a monster of a new laptop Lenovo x230T I7 with 16 Gigs of Ram and 256 Gig SSD and 2 USB 3 ports.
And the deal killer if I could not get it was the ability to be downgraded to Windows7
Considering that iOS is a subset of OSX, probably a while. Also consider that OSX only runs on Apple hardware.
Windows 8.1 is forced on us when we buy a new computer. That isn’t selling, that is a monopoly that the manufacturers of pc’s are going along with for the most part. They have seen how the public hates Windows 8.1 and do offer Windows 7 but you have to look for it.
This weekend I watched a retired Nasa engineer attempt to give a PowerPoint presentation on a laptop that he bought recently. He fumbled around trying to find where his PowerPoint document was to launch it. He finally voiced his angry frustration that he spends most of his time now trying to find or do things on his new computer cursed with Windows 8.1. Most of the audience nodded or voiced their solidarity with him. I’ve known the guy for 30+ years and he is no dummy. Not a very glowing testimonial for a new computer operating system! To further underscore the problem, I had just completed a successful slide presentation using LibreOffice running on Linux.
Linux Mint is another to try.
