Been trying to figure that one out too. No one where I work seems to know either. It involves paying back your military time and giving up your military retirement and no one wants to take that chance.
Same here. I got the email about two hours ago, then a phone call from my boss. Report to work tomorrow as normal.

Yes we do, he states it on his home page and that he went home to Iowa to retire. Good for him that he presumably found himself a new job at the AFB in Nebraska..
Does that new job as a presumed contractor include a pension? It's certainly a legitimate question and whether or not he wishes to answer it is up to him.........There's no need for him to be obnoxious about it tho unless it struck a nerve......
Hubby just got called, Kirtland AFB, NM.
Home to the longest runway in the entire state (even longer than Indianapolis IAP I'm told), and the largest air fueling wing in all of the Reserves. It's also one of the only two (I think) free standing reserve bases in the Air Force. It's a small base, but a good one.
Actually you don't, you get credit in your claimed home state for the out of state imcome taxes you paid in Nebraska.........it's a wash.

If there were not people like US Navy Vet, my husband and many like him, the military members would not get the support they need. But we are bashed here unrepentantly and with regularity.
People make assumptions and think we’re all making 6 figure incomes with the fed. Guess what, we aren’t. They assume we have a “Cadillac health plan”, nope. Yesterday I was told my husband has 8 weeks of paid vacation per year, nope, not that either.
There are good, very good civilians working for the fed and then again there are some not so good. That is in every industry, every business, everywhere! People on FR love to support the military but gosh the ones that work day to day supporting the military are scum to a lot of FReepers here and it feels like a betrayal.

Too many here on FR jump on federal employees as being "fat cats," "double dippers," etc. I'm an Air Force but I never saw any combat. My son is an Air Force vet who DID see combat. If any of the people who bash us here on FR ever tried to bash him in person they would end up looking like a pretzel. He did his time and he's damned proud of it. He's also, now, a federal employee, but he never retired, he separated after 6 years because they forced him out.
Unfortunately, we're lumped into the same mold as the likes of senators and congressman, and of course the terrorist in the White House, and that makes us look like the bad guy too, but we're not.
I wish people here on FR would realize that.
While his statement is inaccurate, I understand the point he is trying to make.
I have a friend who was drafted into the Army and spent his 2 years in Germany roughly around 1967 - 1969. Came to work for my company and retired after 30+ years.
Following his retirement in Dec. 2004 or 05, he subsequently moved to Florida and eventually went to work for the TSA.
Because the TSA is a Govt. agency, he is acquiring a pension that will also include the two years he spent in the Army.
There is not one company in the private sector that will include prior employment into their pension plan unless that employee was VESTED into their plan before termination.
The same thing applies to teachers. My BIL was able to "buy back" the non vested time he spent as a teacher here in Michigan after he was rehired in an Oakland County school district after being a self employed psychologist for almost 30 years and will guarantee him a higher pension payment as well as healthcare.

Our men and women in military service should be the first to be paid and should never lose benefit because of politics. I include “ex military” in this statement because, well, I hear there is no such thing as “ex” in the military.

Income earned in IA was taxed by IA and your income earned in NE was taxed by NE........I don't see a problem.
If you were taxed by your home state of Iowa for the income earned and taxed in Nebraska and didn't get a credit for it then you either have a moron for a tax preparer or you did it yourself.
I am NOT going to sit here or anywhere else going “Back and Forth” w/ you concerning taxes. What I paid(or did NOT pay) in income tax to either the Feds, 2 States, and localities is NONE OF YOUR DAMNED Business. So in that vein, GO TO HELL, Troll!
That isn’t an example of double dipping.
The military gets about 50% of their base wage if they stay in 20 years. They get 75% if they stay 30 years, etc. So, if someone does 20 years in the military and gets half their base wage, that’s the deal. If they then do another 20 years for the postal service to get another 50%, that’s still the deal, still the same rate, and it took 40 years to get 100% of a low wage.
Frankly, federal retirement pay isn’t that great. A person that spends 40 years saving in a retirement account on the civilian side can earn millions as a result, not $14-$80k or so per year the average single and double pension earner makes. Not to mention the civilian lives a far better life in most cases from the very beginning.
let’s see, military for 20 years, start pulling in the pension while you are working a GS 9 job, then retire and get your GS 9 government retirement, is that what you meant? Now do you see?
Maybe I’m just jealous and wish I had stayed in the military and started pulling in retirement money in my 40s and then got another government job so I could have a big safety net at the taxpayer’s expense I don’t know
