If there were not people like US Navy Vet, my husband and many like him, the military members would not get the support they need. But we are bashed here unrepentantly and with regularity.
People make assumptions and think we’re all making 6 figure incomes with the fed. Guess what, we aren’t. They assume we have a “Cadillac health plan”, nope. Yesterday I was told my husband has 8 weeks of paid vacation per year, nope, not that either.
There are good, very good civilians working for the fed and then again there are some not so good. That is in every industry, every business, everywhere! People on FR love to support the military but gosh the ones that work day to day supporting the military are scum to a lot of FReepers here and it feels like a betrayal.

Too many here on FR jump on federal employees as being "fat cats," "double dippers," etc. I'm an Air Force but I never saw any combat. My son is an Air Force vet who DID see combat. If any of the people who bash us here on FR ever tried to bash him in person they would end up looking like a pretzel. He did his time and he's damned proud of it. He's also, now, a federal employee, but he never retired, he separated after 6 years because they forced him out.
Unfortunately, we're lumped into the same mold as the likes of senators and congressman, and of course the terrorist in the White House, and that makes us look like the bad guy too, but we're not.
I wish people here on FR would realize that.
I would suggest just ignoring it and keeping your mouth shut. It has been a rough 5 years for many people on main street and they are venting...
