The stork that was detained by Egyptian police on suspicion of spying has been killed and eaten, days after its release.

Police detained the stork after a man saw a tag on it and caught it, suspecting it was a spying device. The stork had been tagged by zoologists to track its migration.

According to Nature Conservation Egypt, the White Stork, which they named Menes, was released into a conservation area in southern Egypt but flew to an island in the Nile where it was caught and eaten.

Do you eat stork with a spork?

And...did it taste like chicken?

Thank God it wasn’t carrying a baby. They would’ve eaten that too, probably.

Using the word ‘pithy’ is comment enough.

Maybe this is their answer to population control.

Reminds me somewhat of a WWI Blackadder epi.

My Great Grandfather, a Captain in the AEF killed and ate a peacock with his men on some french chateau during the war (towards the end, they'd gone beyond the supply lines.)

That reminds me of a really dirty joke- the punchline is “you think YOU’RE Thor, I can hardly pith”

Blackadder was eating the carrier pigeons...

Peacock was a favorite dish of Henry VIII, and in ancient Rome, it was decided to limit personal expenditures for "feasts", including weddings, and a single peacock would soak up ~20% of the "legal" limit.

And yes, they had the then-equivalent of BHO enforcers harassing and fining people. There are absurd stories of the kitchen help temporarily moving the excess food out windows when unbribable feast police types would crash a party.

I hope your antecedent enjoyed it, because it's somewhat difficult not to overcook and dry out on the first attempt.

Like in an old computer company, where they at the end of the fiscal year used to move all unfinished machines out on the shipping ramp and mark it as “shipped” in inventory, to inflate results.

Canadian Gerald Bull had a factory that straddled the US-Canada border. To "get around" the export ban of weapons to South Africa, he'd move the artillery pieces from one side of the factory to the other.

The Feds were not amused.

Years later, he managed to not amuse the Mossad (allegedly).
