Today I received "The American Community Survey" from the Commerce Dept. It is 28pp of very intrusive questions, from the time I usually leave for work (to the minute) to who I work for and how much I make to how much I pay for utilities, and much, much more. The questions are repeated for everyone who lives in my household and include name, address, and phone numbers.
It says I am required by law to return this.
Anyone here familiar with this? Any advice?
I do not know the BigGov legalities, but I would use it to light my fireplace. No way they are making me lap their boots like that.
No you didn't. The USPS has been damned unreliable since Sandy blew through! It's not your fault it was lost in the mail.
I'd be creeped out about the questions, though.
I was threatened by the census bureau twice in 2009 that i would be prosecuted if I did not reply. So I called them back and said “none of your business” to every question. They never contacted me again. I made sure it was the census by returning their call.
That lady was SOME pissed off with me!
Tell em to go fry ice.
I thought that was the survey that some people received along with their 2010 census forms. Didn’t know they were circulating this unconstitutional nonsense in non-census years.
Isn’t that a survey from the Business Dept.?
Tell them your dog ate it!
I tossed both it and the farm version of it, and haven’t been arrested yet :)
same issue. fill it out, no one ever said you had to be truthful. So as a black, Polynesian, islamic, wickin transgendered, 200 yr old ect. note the computer spit out your address.
Good luck with that.
I think I'd deal with them the same as other polls.
Tell them that you love Bronco Bama.
Short answer: don't return it, and if you get a follow up call say you never received it. At that point they may or may not ask follow-up questions. You can be fined if you decline to respond to those questions.
File 13 material.
>> Any advice?
I can’t give you any advice.
All I can do is to tell you what *I* would do if it were me.
Ir it were me, I’d shred it.
This looks like the census form I filled out while I was on the road in 2010 far from my home.
These guys need to be sequestrated.
obama doesn’t recognize the Commerce Dept, so why should you?
The last time a Census worker showed up after I didn’t send in the form, I was on the front porch cleaning a rifle with two Dobes laying at my feet.
That was 20 years ago and they haven’t been back since or sent me any more forms.
You're supposed to fill it out accurately instead of just kinda-sorta-close-enough guesstimates. Of course, they can't tell whether or not you wrote actual correct answers or plausible numbers off the top of your head unless they already know the exact answers, and if they already knew the answers they wouldn't need to send you the form. I'm not suggesting anything, I'm just saying....
The feds don’t take “the fine print” on voter registrations seriously, what makes this crap any different?
Did it come via certified mail? If not they have no idea if you received it or not. Just saying.
I got it too. I threw it out. This week, I got another one. I’m throwing it out as well. There is no way I’m answering any of these questions. They can come to the door and ring ‘til they’re heart’s content. I won’t be here for 3 months. To HELL with these people!
Oh! You are so right, the locals did come back for the census... I forgot !
I posted my drooling chocolate lab on the front doorstep with a welcome mat that says “go AWAY!”
Kids at halloween loved it last night ! Thanks for reminding me!
I am chuckling now at the recollection!
Hell NO!!!!!
I signed it and sent it back blank. They sent another and I did the same thing.
A woman showed up at my door and said I had to answer the questions.
I answered every question with the response “it’s none of your business” She looked at me, and I told her she wanted an answer, and I gave her one to each question asked. Never heard back. That was 4 months ago. Commerce Dept IIRC.
Return it. Nothing says your hand must write truthful info.
I’ve received them and have thrown them out. Nothing has ever happened - no calls, no knock on the door, nothing.
I remember getting the farm version.
I live smack in the middle of DFW, lol.
I was sorely tempted to make things up, maybe I could have gotten ag subsidies, lol. I just checked a few “No”s and mailed it back, mostly empty.
It is past time the sheeple stopped complyin’ and cooperatin’.
Next year we get to had to our IRS tax forms an extra form revealing our medical history as it relates to our compliance with unconstitutional Obamacare.
Be thinking about that. All this other stuff is experimentation for how willing to stay sheepel until we are reduced to train boarding material ala Germany.
Hey, wasn’t it lost in the mail and you never got it?
can’t give anyone any advice about anything....
at this house, all junk mail (meaning anything we did not request or desire) gets Round Filed immediately (and we can never seem to remember receiving any particular piece of crap, given all crap looks pretty much the same...)
they can resend whatever, and if it is something we did not request or desire, it will promptly meet the same fate. There’s PLENTY of room in the Round File, and the city picks it up every week so that makes for even MORE room....
we’re paying for the city to haul this crap away, we may as well make use of that wonderful and very convenient public service.
just saying
Declaration To Census Takers
I hereby affirm that the provisions of Title 13 ``requiring me to disclose my race, personal financial data, birth-date, or any other personal or private information to the Bureau of the Census, an agency of the United States government, constitutes an unreasonable, unwarranted search of my person, house, papers, and/or effects; and a governmental invasion of the sanctity of my home and the privacies of life. As such, these provisions violate the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution, and are thus wholly void and I am not bound to obey them.
I have completed only those sections of the Census form pertaining to the Constitutionally-mandated actual enumeration, as follows:
1. The actual number of people living at the address printed on the form, excluding untaxed Native Americans.
2. Age of each person in accordance with US Const. Amendment XIV, Section 2.
3. Sex of each person, in accordance with US Const. Amendment XIV, Section 2.
I have thus fulfilled my obligation to the attainment of the actual enumeration of the populace of the United States
For some odd reason I have never gotten another form nor has anyone called about it.
SCREW THEM.
Census finally came to my house.
Dog got in their car with them
Census finally came to my house.
Dog got in their car with them
By who? The census department may have bullets but they have no enforcement division and if I remember right the census can’t give your personal info to the justus department because they are bound by some law not to.
... However ...
If you refuse to answer direct questions posed by a Census employee, or interfere with their ability to collect data they can make a civil or criminal referral to DOJ, depending on which is appropriate.
Mine got lost in the mail, never had a chance to fill it out and return it. That is, that would be my story if I had gotten one, but I didn’t... Really...
I like it. They try that excrement with me, my answer to every question will be “42” after all, that’s the answer to the universe, right?
Isn't that the Business Dept.?
Yes.
Fill the document with a strip of bacon.
Return it.
Nobody has ever been prosecuted for not filling out a census form. If you’re prepared to be firm, you will be bothered for a few months, and then they’ll go away.
“While big business benefits from having as much information about citizens as possible, many citizens are unwilling to give away their right to privacy. Hence, many are refusing to return the ACS. This automatically results in an additional form being sent, followed by a series of phone calls. In 21% of the cases, an unannounced, personal visit from a Census Bureau representative follows in a final attempt to get the survey completed. Often, more than one visit takes place.
In the end, however, the Census Bureau has no authority to enforce the laws that require the ACS be answered. The Census Bureau can press formal charges for non-compliance, but this is somewhat impractical given the number of forms that are not returned, or that are returned incomplete. A lawsuit would likely draw media attention and a public outcry that would very probably bring an end to the survey or end mandatory compliance. As of early 2007, no legal action has been taken against anyone for refusing to answer the ACS.”
There’s a lot of websites with people posting their experiences getting rid of these leeches. There’s a set procedure and time frame that they go by.
Here’s a couple links.

Here’s an old manual describing their procedures for people who resist.

Really. Last time I was an unemployed Black Lesbian executive making 250K/Year. (evil grin)
Still figuring how I’m going to top that, next time it shows up in my mailbox. . .
If you get the farm version claim all sorts of cash crops on the back 40 million acres. lol
Nah. But I WILL report the details of my wife’s farm.
In Farmville. On Facebook.
(evil grin)
I received the ACS a couple of years ago. I never returned the form to the Census Department. Nothing will happen to you if you throw the form away.
HOWEVER, be prepared for the Census Department to hound you in person & by phone for about 90 days to fill out the form. After 90 days, they’re off to hound the next victim.
Why the hell would local cops play along? They have zero jurisdiction to enforce silly federal laws. Were they bored? Are the feds supplementing their income?
Soft tyranny is so evil that it’s not even fun to resist. Imagine how much precious time is stolen from people’s lives because they think they have to become little unpaid bureaucrats.
