On Sunday’s “Face the Nation” on CBS, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum explained that his view of the Trayvon Martin shooting differed significantly from the one held by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich was critical of President Barack Obama’s reaction, but Santorum placed the blame on accused shooter George Zimmerman’s mental state.
“Well, you know, obviously, I’m not privy to what’s going on in someone’s mind,” Santorum said. “Obviously, in my opinion, someone … has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. You know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. It’s a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I can’t imagine what they’re suffering, losing their son in such a horrific way. All I would say is that, whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one, and a very, very tragic one.”

That's right...this was mentioned in some article I had read where it was raised.....Zimmerman was under no legal restrictions they can only suggest...which they did. Catherine, here's something very interesting which is not getting into the news. This article was in Feb....Published : Monday, 27 Feb 2012, 4:55 PM EST.....and long before the media hype and soon after the incident.... Martin's mother tells what happened: "He walked out of the house to go to the store. He was going to the store," she said. "He doesn't know anybody here. He just came down here, so he was bored, so he walked down to the store. He was on his way back home. Well, I just read the FULL RS quote, and I agree with Rick. There was NO excuse for this clown chasing a man down who committed no crime. Very possibly, Martin thought that *Zimmerman* was a criminal, and seized his opportunity to attack him physically. After being beaten, Zimmerman was angry, understandably, but then he shot to kill.
Look, to me it is a “man bites dog” story, and such things happen rarely. The shooter seems to me to be a Deputy Dog type, but we don’t need the loathesome Al Sharpton and others to fan the flames as if this was something other than an isolated incident. Bob

If you read through the record of his 911 calls, it appears that Zimmerman was a busybody, almost the stereotype, who in old movies is played by an old woman.
All the way up until he killed an innocent DEFENSELESS 17 year old BOY for walking home from the sotore with his Skittles and Iced Tea....Bad Boy, dealing those candies and drinkin’ that hard stuff...he deserved to be killed didn’t he?

If Zimmerman had seen Martin commit a crime and this story ensued, I’d be on Rick like white on rice. There was no excuse for the nutty chase which led to this tragedy. Zimmerman should be prosecuted, and not b/c a swarm of racist blacks are demanding it. They are right, for achange.

I pretty much agree that we don’t know all the facts, and further am willing to stipulate that Zimmerman is being railroaded, and shot Martin who was sitting on his chest and pummeling him.
I take grave exception however, to your statement that “We know” that “A thief” was casing the community for “a burglary”.
