On Sunday’s “Face the Nation” on CBS, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum explained that his view of the Trayvon Martin shooting differed significantly from the one held by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich was critical of President Barack Obama’s reaction, but Santorum placed the blame on accused shooter George Zimmerman’s mental state.
“Well, you know, obviously, I’m not privy to what’s going on in someone’s mind,” Santorum said. “Obviously, in my opinion, someone … has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. You know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. It’s a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I can’t imagine what they’re suffering, losing their son in such a horrific way. All I would say is that, whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one, and a very, very tragic one.”

If Zimmerman had seen Martin commit a crime and this story ensued, I’d be on Rick like white on rice. There was no excuse for the nutty chase which led to this tragedy. Zimmerman should be prosecuted, and not b/c a swarm of racist blacks are demanding it. They are right, for achange.
How much sense does it make to stalk and kill a 17 year old boy walking hiome from the store after buying Skittles and an Iced Tea?

I pretty much agree that we don’t know all the facts, and further am willing to stipulate that Zimmerman is being railroaded, and shot Martin who was sitting on his chest and pummeling him.
I take grave exception however, to your statement that “We know” that “A thief” was casing the community for “a burglary”.

Clearly it was a bad situation that no one would want to happen. Again, based on the little we now know, a man with a gun, who according to you, "was a crazed wanna-be cop", would let a guy close enough to break his nose and cause a cut needing stitches on the back of his head, before pulling the trigger.
It is hard to break a mans nose and smack his head down before the trigger was pulled and be called defenseless.
If Zimmerman is innocent, he should be exonerated, and if guilty, put to trial and convicted. We shall see how it is played out. Either way, it is sad someone had to die, unless he deserved it.

Newt has the presence of the elder statesman, but too few appreciate or recall his importance to the survival of the Republican Party in ‘94 and the public eating of democrats in that election, due to Newt’s brain and single minded leadership.
Newt WAS the first Tea Party; Rick was but cutting teeth and needing handlers, and Romney was off being, well....being Romney— “off”.
Rick must fit the American voter today who, knowing nothing much of our history, rather likes bright, shiny objects who can strut and fret well on stage, with convincing passion and little to offer in either plan or strategy.
Depressing, I must say, but for a snarling good convention possibly. :)

I have found we humans have amazing powers of forgiveness, especially for those who help us to believe what we desperately wish to be true.
Might pay to go back to when this first happened, as that article was, and before the media tripped everybodies wires. Makes you wonder truly why the mother said Martin was on the porch....and as that gets out they’ll be all sorts of reasons why she said that....but just another piece going into the puzzle. One could say she was covering for her kid as easily as not...
At issue for me is the happening was almost a month ago and we’re just hearing baout this??? And who’s pushing the buttons for that to happen....three guesses!
Terrible...no different than a linch mob going after Zimmerman....same as they did the Lacross guys.
And then they wonder why little tolerance for those who use the race baiting cards..... simple enough to just say two guys got into a rumble, one got shot...evidence is being collected,...outcome to yet be determined, end of story.
