Shortly after closest approach, Stardust turned its antenna toward Earth to begin the downlink. The playback was delayed an hour due to inclement weather at a ground station in Spain.

When the close-up images didn't show up as planned, project leaders were seen pacing around mission control or huddling in groups to troubleshoot.

Space enthusiasts who stayed up all night watching the coverage streamed over the Internet by NASA grew weary and signed off from Twitter and other social networking sites after failing to get an up-close peek.

Here's the new pic. Okay, actually it's the asteroid Apopsis, not the comet.

Probably some crashed ufo in the side of it and it is taking time for NASA to scrub it out of the image. No worries...hehe

I’m thinking software programming error. Maybe instead of taking 72 pictures, it took one picture and sent it back 72 times.

That's too bad, but I did hear they managed to get a nice close up picture of Uranus...

Thanks BenLurkin, it's an ugly little spud (to quote the script of "Ghostbusters").

Unbeknownst to those controlling the comet seeking probe, the intense alternating magnetic fields coupled by intense light emissions from the comet has confused the autopilot orientation controlling the satellite, resulting the the photographs being sent instead into the deep space of the galaxy, but in the opposite direction than Earth.

Per chance an advanced alien species, having recently intercepted the Earth probe Galileo, cognizant of the rarely encountered intelligent life in a foreign system, recognizes the transmissions for what they perceive them,...as friendly gestures of an advanced intelligent species seeking a friendly liaison with perhaps another intelligent species.

Closely calculating the source of the transmission and its content, the foreign species identifies not only the source as the Comet, and the satellite transmission as a photograph of our home,...they also calculate its deadly trajectory with another celestial body, a mysterious blue planet orbiting the distant star, which will obviously destroy the comet upon their intersection.

Reverse calculating the trace of both bodies, the foreign friendly aliens have now reprogrammed their satellite weapon systems to destroy the blue planetary nemesis before it able to destroy the comet, thereby guaranteeing the safety of their newly found friends, as a gesture of pure intergalactic goodwill.
