Survivor: Nicaragua

Posted on 09/15/2010 2:53:14 PM PDT by EveningStar

I will be handling this thread on a temporary basis only, and as time and health permits. You people are used to - and deserve - more. Hopefully, someone more qualified will step up and take this over. :)

Wikipedia article

Survivor: Nicaragua is the 21st season of Survivor. It will moving to Wednesday nights this season. In fact, it begins tonight, September 15, 2010, 8/7c.

The theme this season will be Young vs Old. The players will include a former NFL coach (Jimmy Johnson) and an amputee triathlete champion (Kelly Bruno).

From Wikipedia:
Survivor host Jeff Probst, has also announced that the Hidden Immunity Idol will continue to be used in the game. However, as idols have been found too easily the past two seasons (most often by Russell Hantz), or as the show's producers have dubbed it, "The Russell Factor", the idol will be hidden differently. The clues to the idols' locations will be visual rather than written as in past seasons. In addition, the tribes will be vying for control of a new item, the Medallion of Power, that, when used, gives an advantage in a challenge, but is then transferred to the other tribe.

Let's meet the players.

Here are photos of the players.

Listed below are links to player profiles. They include a video clip of the player, which is, unfortunately preceded by a short - but annoying - ad.

Redemption Island?????

Didn’t Jeff or Mark Burnett learn anything from Pearl Island’s “Outcast tribe”?

In fact, Jeff even said in an interview, that the Outcast tribe was the worst idea they ever came up with.

Now he thinks this is a good idea? They must be paying him a bundle to pitch this.

I predict this will flop just as badly as before.

Yeah, I don’t like him because of the Tom Landry thing but would have liked to have seen him play longer. I have to admit, he was kinda cool. Too bad Bradshaw doesn’t want to go on Survivor. He’d be fun to watch.

That’s probably just *one* of his properties. Anyone who has 22 additional pairs of $1600 shoes has to have some major moola. Notice how he wouldn’t answer Jeff’s $$ question? :)

From Jeff’s blog - In another format switch, since each episode will include a Redemption Island duel, you can expect there to be just one combined reward/immunity challenge per episode for the players that have yet to be voted out. “This is the most excited I’ve been in a long time when it comes to a twist. I really hope Redemption Island adds a new layer that we can use for years to come,” said Probst. “We have no idea what’s gong to happen. It’s a big risk. It could fail miserably. I don’t think it’s going to.”

Not that anyone asked, but I think it will fail and fail miserably. I also think the Reward and Immunity challenges need to be separate and not combined. They bring different aspects and twists. Hey, Jeff, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Yeah, I read that in the comments section of Jeff’s blog and that the info may have come from Fabio saying in this morning’s winner interview that the guys and NaOnka voted for him. I didn’t see the interview so can’t comment on that.

Dalton Ross at Survivor Central has a rather cutting take on the finale:

'Survivor' recap: The Right Person Won

I think the show needs to ditch the Mactors and Recruits.

The spoiler's boot list and winner - put out before the season started - was spot on.

And they're putting out next season's now. Heck, I don't even know who all the players are and I can find out who wins.

I'll still be watching come Feb.

Thanks EveningStar for keeping this going. You're the best!!

Dalton rated Nicaragua as the worst season yet. :o) Hard to argue with that. It was mediocre at best. Several of my friends quit watching because they couldn't get into it. Die hard that I am I stuck with it and am glad that I did. Yay Fabio!! Glad he won even if I didn't understand a word he was saying at the reunion show.

Good read, thanks. My top fav was the first season with the worst being Africa. Agreed that this season had too many forgettable contestants (didn’t remember half of them at the Reunion) and not enough likeable ones, but it was far from the worst... somewhere in the middle of my rankings. The show used to do more personal interviews and interactions so the audience got to know the contestants and we became more involved with the social play.

No, sorry, didn’t word it clearly. Benry went off on a walk like a duck rant about Sash being gay as if anyone couldn’t have figured it out the first five minutes of the show.
