Former President Donald Trump is intensifying his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, calling him disloyal and saying that his political career would have been over had he not endorsed his ultimately successful 2018 campaign.
“He was dead as a dog, he was a dead politician. He would have been working perhaps for a law firm or doing something else,” Trump told a small group of reporters aboard his plane on Monday afternoon en route to Iowa, where he was to make an appearance that evening.
Trump spent nearly ten minutes going after DeSantis, who is widely viewed as his most formidable challenger for the Republican nomination. The Florida governor, who is expected to launch his campaign following the end of the state’s legislative session in May, has been embarking on a swing of early primary states to promote his newly released memoir — including in Iowa, where he appeared on Friday.

This mudslinging is the same gimmick Trump used against Ted Cruz in 2016.
It worked then, so Trump figures it will work again. The only problem is Ron DeSantos is no Ted Cruz.

Here’s my plan. Ignore Donald Trump until it is time to vote for him. Then vote for DeSantis after Trump’s second term. I don’t see how we can defeat the deep state any other way.

If DeSantis does the same once he's officially in, you might as well cancel the primary and give the nomination to Trump. That simply doesn't work. You have to hit back whether you like it or not.
But I think his time is up...and he should go home to his lovely wife and their children and make "family first" at this time.

Donald and Ronald, sit your butts down, shut up and listen. You are making asses out of yourselves. Every word you speak needs to be about the future of America and defeating Democrat commies. You lower yourselves when you attack each other. When you don’t have nice things to say about about each other, then attack a Democrat instead. That’s easy enough to do, but if you can’t then it’s obvious you are not cut out for this job.
Trump needs to learn when to shut his mouth, but; he will not. This man could do anything if he shut up and stopped trashing others.

Some on FR don't understand that simple law.
A person could say "DeSantis didn't hit him." But getting closer and closer to running against him is like hitting him. Trump may not want to wait for all the hoo-ha when the "I'm running!" announcement finally comes.
DeSantis has not been an attack dog and hasn’t called other candidates names. He’s played it cool. That will certainly make him more palatable to the normies during the general election.
