"Turn Off, Tune Out, Drop Out"

To tweak Timothy Leary’s famous “turn on, tune in, drop out” for these times, let me suggest that we “turn off, tune out, drop out.”

Therefore, to the extent possible:

"Turn off" any programming or any commercial activity that is a forum that enables the left to continue their relentless attack against our values, our country and yes, our choice for President. If one is interested in a particular sport, for example, get together with friends and play the game.

"Tune out" all noise, sloganeering, voices and virtue signaling that come from the various groups that, again, routinely attack us, our way of life, our country. Spend the time with family and friends; get a new hobby.

"Drop out" of any economic activity that enables the left and their elitist comrades to continue to do well with your support and at your expense. Support local businesses and avoid companies that sponsor or otherwise support the economic activities of organizations or causes that you do not support.

America first! Let’s see what happens.

I think that as a country, we've had enough of this nonsense from elitists and I believe that the only effective way for them to understand what they are doing is, in fact, divisive, is to actually show them the economics of it.

Both economics and election results. Electing president Trump was not the end, it was only the beginning.

I will not watch The Orville ever again. It’s pure propaganda. The first 2 episodes were innocuous, but the third showed its true colors. Hour-long promotion of sex change for babies and homosexual marriage.
Not science-fiction. Promotion of leftist agenda.

I support your ideas completely but unfortunately human nature works against convincing others to take individual acts of cultural resistance. Most people have been coopted by leftist institutions (academe, entertainment etc.) without even realizing it and will remain devoted to the bread and circuses. The left is also very successful with money and organization, resources (excepting the Tea Party) the right has never successfully used to effect dramatic societal change. Until people really wake up and organization becomes a priority, I am afraid its going to continue to be a lot of voices crying in the wilderness.

You do realize that this would involve not purchasing products from the likes of Ford Motor Company or Microsoft, just to name a few.

And...even if you don’t have a Windows based computer, the server farms you pay for bring you your data...will you boycott those as well?

Or do we limit this “boycott” only to things “we” can live without?

“I will not watch The Orville ever again.”

I agree with you, but some liberals were freaking out that the episode you’re talking about was against transgenders :-).

Overall I think the show is going to get worse in the liberalism department. The first two episodes were good, but, yeah, the third jumped the shark for me.

Many of the early “hippies” were not flaming libs that we have today.
They didn’t even call themselves hippies.
The back to nature (the Garden) got corrupted by perverts and druggies.
I will take it a step further and say that small scale community coops work.
The Amish are a good example.
Even Communism works small scale.
The problems begin when the government forces it on an entire nation.

“will remain devoted to the bread and circuses”

If I can stop watching sports and paying to see Star Wars in the theatre, anyone can :-). This stuff just isn’t that important!

I quit watching NFL a while ago for other reasons, but the more recent events simply solidify my decision to not have that game show on in my home ... nor will I watch it elsewhere.

I gave up MLB ... that’s mainly due to the scumbag owner here in Pittsburgh ... life went on and was better :-).

I won’t see another film in the theater until this assault on the United States stops. That includes Star Wars VIII (that’ll end a streak of seeing every sequel on opening day).

What you find when you give up this garbage is that you save more money and discover that there is SOOOOOOOO many better things to do with your time :-). Hell, SLEEPING is a better way to spend your time vs. getting all riled up watching an NFL game ... at least your body is getting some downtime :-).

I have done the same thing except I will watch my alma mater college football on television. Last movie I saw was Dunkirk meaning that when I rarely go to the movie, it will be for reasons more serious than mindless entertainment. But all professional sports, networks, sitcoms, MSM news, are off limits. I admit a weakness for British period dramas like Downton Abbey, Victoria etc. and other Netflix/Amazon offerings that I my mind have some redeeming social or intellectual value.

Never heard of the show until now; I don’t watch current television shows at all. Can’t say I’m surprised by your characterization; this stuff is all the rage these days.

I know that is what you meant. And this is not against you personally at all, so I hope you understand it is venting in general.

I guess everyone has their ox to be gored.

My ox being gored is football since I have been an avid fan going on fifty years, so that is fine with everyone who isn’t interested. Not their ox, so let’s gore it.

Suggest that their ox of using Microsoft products or Ford vehicles be gored because they give far more financial support to anti-conservative things than the NFL ever has or will, well, that is too much to ask of people I guess, and either dissembling or silence follows. Consistency isn’t the important thing there.

Especially when you look at the money that goes to not just un-conservative entities, but openly hostile and anti-conservative entities from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which offers large matching funds from Microsoft for employee donations to it) and the Ford Foundation which was one of the largest (if not the largest) contributors to the Black Lives Matter organization last year which took in $130 million dollars from various Open Society Foundations (Soros umbrella) as well as the Ford Foundation.

Sure, the Ford Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations are not part of those companies, but as of 2014 (last I could find) Ford Motor Company was triple matching donations from their employees to the Ford Foundation, as an example. Which means that if you buy Ford or Microsoft, you are giving far more, and more important support in the form of money than kneeling football jerkoffs ever could or will.

I see your point. But you likely aren’t really interested in football anyway, so like many people, it is no skin off your back to make a choice. it is quite easy.

I just find it interesting that people aren’t really interested when the discussion comes up in this vein. Everyone likes to talk, especially on Free Republic now, as this is the whipping boy of the day, but when it comes to being consistent and really understanding the issues and the assault against us...that isn’t as important.

And it makes not a whit of difference to many people to give up something they aren’t doing anyway. Ask them to give up their computer OS or even the Internet itself...perhaps that is too much to ask. Too much inconvenience and sacrifice.

Again, this is not directed at you personally. I have spent the last 20 years tuning out and dropping out of things such as television, newspapers, etc. I am just tired of “dropping out” of these things instead of standing up and fighting for them. And believe me, I have dropped out of things.

I have walked the walk. I spent years going to counter-demonstrations against liberals in Washington, driving 8 hours a pop to do it. I have cut product after product, store after store, written letters to editorials and politicians, worked hard to understand issues, and for what? Eight years of Obama and his scum? I haven’t given up yet on this, and am in the process of writing letters to every owner of every NFL franchise, as well as the NFL itself. But it will likely have no effect. These people really believe their own crap, because they are leftists.

Now I have people on FR, a site I have regarded as my go-to place for nearly any Internet thing for years, telling people like me I am anti-American for watching something I have watched for nearly fifty years? This alone makes me angry, even if I understand completely why people take this stand.

I have a degree of social network around my football buddies, one of whom joined the Navy with me 40-something years ago and is my best friend. Football is a glue that gives us time to get together, hang out, have a beer, barbecue and talk about stuff. We have had season tickets, made road trips, gone to Super Bowls, watched every game for nearly two decades, gone to Christmas parties, met people from all over our region, and have countless pictures, memories and friendships for which professional football is the glue that brought us together and gives us an excuse to get together, instead of collecting butterflies or cleaning out the garage again.

And I have to give it up?

Because I hate what those leftist scumbags do, and have had more direct contact and confrontation with it than 90% of the people posting on Free Republic have. I grew up under that flag, my father served his life under that flag as I did, and he died and was buried under that flag, so it means something to me. It isn’t just a piece of cloth on top of a pole. I honor and respect that piece of cloth because it MEANS more than just a collection of thread and dyed fabric. It stands for what I believe in.

I haven’t looked at my FR stats in what seems like years, and just took a look...it says I have posted a total of 110 threads and 51,017 replies. That is a lot of time Freeping. I am doing a lot more listening and discussing than starting of discussions, I guess.

Point is, I have always given people space to make choices about how to be consistent in the aspects of their life. I may not go see movies starring anti-American clowns like George Clooney, or listened to music by pieces of crap like Bruce Springsteen but if other people do that, I have always thought that is their business, not mine.

I have always considered that a realistic and conservative mindset. Allow people to make their own choices to run their own lives. But it isn’t something that is reciprocated in any way. Not at all. We have jackasses on here who excoriate people for buying anything from China, but you think those same people examine every single thing down to a pen they write with to see if it was made in China? Of course they don’t. But it doesn’t slow them down a bit.

And a website that I absolutely love for the dialogue, has become someplace I cannot enjoy now. Over this crap. Every second or third thread is about this BS. And threads that aren’t are about Marxist cadets at West Point.

I think I am just going to have to take a break from this for a while. As you can tell, it makes me angry.

I am tired of giving up things in my life because of effing liberal BS.

“I have a degree of social network around my football buddies...”

I think we all do, which is why this might do more to divide the country than most realize. And because it has the potential for being so destructive to something that binds us regardless of left or right politics, it leads me to believe there’s something else driving this business.

Tucker did a pretty good job getting into this last night.

Honestly, I haven’t given the thought (until recently) that it could possibly be driven by something else than what it appears to be, but it is making more sense to me with each passing day.

One of the things the Left does is destroy and appropriate symbols and language. They understand just how important it is.

NFL football is a uniquely American thing. It is a masculine thing. Both of these things are despised and hated by the Left.

So, yes...I have considered it, and feel more inclined to view it in that prism.

It is entirely possible that dumb asses like Micheal Bennett and Kapernick buy into the crap completely and are willing to sacrifice their careers, because Bennett hasn’t got much longer to play, and Kapernick wasn’t much to begin with, but both have made multi-millions playing the sport, but don’t give a crap about the 24 year old useful idiots just starting out, or the cowardly players of all stripes who are touching the back of their head to the heels of their cleats to avoid being politically incorrect.

“NFL football is a uniquely American thing. It is a masculine thing.”

It pretty much encapsulates all the Left despises, which makes me scratch my head a bit over why some of my lefty buddies commit the time they do to the sport. Of course they do root for teams like the Seahawks soooo....
Go Chiefs!
