After many threads expressing frustration and dismay over Free Republic's responsiveness of recent days, I think it is worth observing that FR is today responding in a manner equal to or better than the best I've ever seen during the nearly twenty years it has been my favorite website.
Congratulations, and Many Thanks, to Jim, John, and the rest of the management team of Free Republic, the best website on the internet.
I have a frontier dsl line. So fast is subjective. However even I have noticed an up tic in speed :)
How seldom we acknowledge GREAT WORK, but we are so fast on the draw in complaining and criticizing.
The speed is so great, the officer had no choice but to pull us over for citation. To the many efforts of a few good men, we’re back in the Indy, again.

Indeed. I signed up in 2001. Without fail it seems, whenever a hugh and series story is breaking, an attack on the site is launched. It’s a sure fire way to know a nerve has been hit and moose bit someone’s sister. I think a story was hit on that might get a pantsuit closer to a jumpsuit and the body count counter spinning like an odometer.
The fact that FR exists at all is a pleasant surprise. When something goes wrong, that’s just how the dice fall, and the right response (in my opinion) is cheery encouragement. And housecleaning.
I might get tired of how fast FR is.
It’s like greased lightning now. A joy to use!

Was somthing actually fixed? Inquiring FReepers want to know. Having worked IT before the fact it is working now means little unless the issue was identified and eliminated.

I hardly noticed since i am so used to DSL. Good job tho keeping the whiners quiet.
During the times that FR has been slow or completely unusable, I’ve been doing a bit of surfing at Breitbart, American Thinker and some other websites. They are unreadable not for slow loading but for the overwhelming amount of ads that are slung at readers. Just as you start to read an article it is interrupted by popups that push more ads. Reading the story requires you to skip over even more ads as you scroll down.
Don’t listen to those on here who ask you to emulate those sites to avoid the Freepathons. The avoidance of those annoyances is what makes FR unique in today’s internet world especially with our trim forum setup. Stay firm, keep us informed (most important) when things tank due to DOS or other attacks and let us know you and John are working on it and when it might be fixed. The latter will keep down the frustration level and when the problem is solved (as we all hope it is) the members will return and again contribute to its success.
BTW, as most of us know, FR is addictive and those that noisily leave most likely will come back hopefully as members if not lurkers.
