The CEO of Whataburger Preston Atkinson announced earlier this month that they will be closing the doors at all their restaurants as of February 2018. The fast food chain has been going down hill do to competition and not being able to get other states to allow them to build restaurants there.

I though it would be well within the bounds of satire under blogs.

It is not as if I put in in Breaking News.

More than anything, Texas Satire.

It would seem to me that this “Prank Site” is open to liability in posting something like this. Any of you legal eagles know?

Closing down Whataburger is not funny!

“The mods just added (Sarcasm) to the Title.”

Thanks. Guess I should have done that part.

I wonder if they still have whole wheat buns. Haven’t eaten there in 20 years.

You thought wrong.

As you can see from all the other replies - we Texans hold our Whataburgers with a great deal of respect and honor.

Nobody else comes close. Not Five Guys. Not In and Out. Not nobody.

No problem. And I’m sorry for flying off the handle at ya. It’s just Whataburgers in Texas is a special thing. Closing Whataburgers would be like shutting down the Hill Country or plowing under every last Blue Bonnet.

A few years ago, I stayed in a motel in El Paso while attending a conference in Las Cruces. In the morning, when I looked out the window, I realized I was in Texas. In the background was a Luby’s restaurant, and across the parking lot was a Taco Cabaña.

No Whataburger and no In-And-Out in my neck-o-the-woods. We have to settle for Five Guys.

I went to Five Guys once

No Whagaburgers west of the Colorado River (not the one in Texas).

When I moved to Tx many years ago and my first Whataburger experience with mustard on the burger I said, ‘WTH’? Since then I have taken a liking to it. None of the fast burger joints have thick patties but Whataburger is bigger than most in its class.

"Why won’t other states allow them to build restaurants?"

I have not even seen it in 40+ years, but there was one near Charlotte in Kannapolis, NC (or was it Concord?) when I was growing up.

Google claims there are 4 or 5 in that area today. Maybe it was economics that kept them from spreading more.

Looks like they are smart enough to only do business in states where the government allows them to keep at least a little bit of their profits. :)

There’s an In-and-Out within walking distance of my home, but I rarely eat there. I prefer to cook my own burgers made with ground buffalo with Hatch green chile. There are also a couple of Five Guys in the area.

My favorite burger chain is Fuddrucker’s. There is only one remaining in my area—at Orangethorpe and Beach in Buena Park.

Haven’t been in one in many, many years. Don’t recall anything special about them. Their loss if they can’t maintain their brand, build upon it.
