This is exactly what happened with the brewing industry in Florida. There was a regulation requiring all beer sales to be done through a distributor, but with an exemption for sales done on-site (to allow people on brewery tours to buy beers on their visit).

The big brewery companies donated $$$s to Jeb Bush to get him to remove this exemption. It hurts the big companies a little, but it does far more damage to the small craft-brewers because a greater share of their income came from these on-site sales.

As you say, this was big companies ganging up, buying politicians and then using government regulation to shaft the small businesses trying to compete with them. Big part of the reason I was so glad to see Jeb Bush fail - no true Republican should be supporting government regulation that interferes with the free market and hurts small businesses.

Pizza is the perfect food: cereal, veggies, meat, and dairy all in an easy-to-eat form.

Of course atkins, paleo, vegans and other diet fetishists don't approve of the pizza, but who cares.

I just want to know what country food is produced in.

This!

It boggles the mind that country of origin info is virtually unattainable by the consumer.

Countries that put melamine in baby formula to eke out a few cents more per purchase would be no more ethical with their ingredient lists/caloric-sodium-fat content disclosures. Just tell me where it comes from and I'll know 95% of what I want to know right there.

There are big chain pizza places around here (Philly suburbs), but only the underclass people go to them. Anyone with any class goes to a “local” pizzeria with only one, or maybe a few shops.

I will not buy pizza that has “turds” on it — sausage or other meat that looks suspiciously like something you find on a deer trail. No preformed toppings.

Agree on this. When we have pizza, Mrs Airlift and I almost always homemade, since she has a wheat allergy and gluten-free is expensive, if you can even find a parlor that makes it.

Yes, that would be expensive. I do think gluten-free baked goods must be eaten within a day. For some reason they go off rather quickly. My dad had celiac so I used to make him pastries, etc.

There’s no way they have 34 million combinations.

So how in the hell will they enforce the law? Selectively, of course, and do the stores owned by conservatives or Christians first.

This, and other bureaucratic traps and tricks were built into this hideous piece of legislation. And since it’s a LAW, every bit of it is enforceable, which is why it MUST be repealed COMPLETELY. it is filled with booby traps, some like the pizza rules, are more annoying than anything else, but some affect whether or not Medicare recipients get treatment, or sent home to improve on their own, or DIE. It’s one big giant social engineering TRAP! REPEAL! Don’t repair!
