Aside from Air Supply, Abba is the greatest band ever.

That’s right...that, and the fact that this was how ALL the glam-rock groups were dressing back then.

dfwgator, Fernando was originally a straight-forward love song in its original Swedish. It was Stig Anderson who changed it, when he rewrote it in English for ABBA.

As for the handful of whiners on this thread...ABBA is simply the best pop group since The Beatles, and their continuing record sales reflect this. I’d hate to be such a sad and miserable person, that I couldn’t enjoy such perfect pop music.

I got hooked on them a couple years ago, listening to now defunct waterlooradio.net.

It was all ABBA, all the time, including after ABBA.

Interesting. Didn't know it was from a musical or that it was written by Andersson and Ulvaeus. It's totaly 80s pop and I got a flashback of White Nights, which carried even a few hits. One that is really done quite nicely is sung by Roberta Flack: People on a String

Where are the great singers and songs today?

I like this, watch the end where the woman do a jig at about the 3 min mark.
The blonde Agnetha Fältskog is a great singer. The other cannot dance... looks funny.

ABBA : So Long (Austrian TV 1974)

ABBA Interview 10th year anniversary - see 9 min mark
Abba - Thank You For The Music - Agnetha Fältskog sings great with no studio production

I never understood the appeal of ABBA. I have 67k songs on my computer and not one of them is an ABBA song. I’m not saying that it’s unreasonable to like them, only that I don’t understand it.

I didn't understand it either, until I listened to a bunch of their non-hit songs. My list is very, very different than any of their greatest hits compilations.

Actually Anna and Annie were the “front men” of the group if you are focusing on the guys you have your own issues. Anna and Annie run something close to the Gilligan’s Island Mary Ann or Ginger debate.

My list includes a lot of songs from the earlier albums with Bjorn as the lead singer. They weren't hits but they are fantastic songs.

I like ABBA but not 8 albums worth...

Listening to the albums was the only way for me to find out that I liked them so much. Before that, all I knew were the hits, most of which I don't like.

Have you listened to Frida’s “Come to Me (I am Woman)?

I have now. What a pretty song. Thanks for the link.

“Please not ABBA!! Waterboard me pleeeeease... pull out my toenails, put me on the rack...anything but ABBA!!!”

That's what I used to think, before I had heard their non-hits. My list is very different from any of their greatest hits compilations.

LOL!

Actually, 17 of the 31 songs on my list are from the first two albums.

Your list is missing two of their best songs. “Knowing Me Knowing You” and “Name of the Game.”

I haven’t heard most of the songs on your list, but I would rather hear these 2 than “Waterloo”, “Mamma Mia” and even their biggest hit “Dancing Queen.”

I don’t understand it when people make lists and leave out obvious choices. You could say, “Just because they’re hits doesn’t make the them great”, but I would say, “That’s why they’re hits, they’re great.”
