I recently listened to all eight of ABBA’s albums for the first time. Here are my 31 favorite songs.

One Night in Bangkok is my least favorite song from Chess - a disco hit. But some of the other numbers, especially the ballads and a national anthem that closes the first act, are unbelievably lovely. I saw it on B’way - it was a huge flop at the time but the songs live on with many cabaret singers.

People can save a lot of valuable time by looking up all the alternative "sped up" versions of Abba songs, and listen to them instead. Here are a couple examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI3JOcIuF8o - Abba - "Take A Chance On Me" (sped up)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YnYvXPsZek - Abba - "Mamma Mia" (sped up)

(Then they will have extra time available to listen to twice as many Abba songs, or maybe to listen to such classics as this and this.)

I had the UK release of “Chess” on cassette before they started producing the Broadway version which was a pale imitation. Lost the humor almost totally.

Still play it now and again.

I have the B’way version. The singing is superb. I’ve never listened to the London version which I think was Elaine Page. It’s a flawed show but had some depth and interest. Many years ago now - I saw it on a twofer with my best friend. Neither of us had dates on Saturday night! (Typical NYC story.)
