Catching a Bullet Trick

It's Real, Do not try this at Home.
Magicians are well-known for their death-defying acts. Some, like the Masked Magician, are known to use tricks and clever optical illusions. Some, like David Blane, may take things a little further.

While not strictly speaking a 'magic trick' by the look of it, this trick is the kind of absurdly dangerous stunt you would expect to see of a magician: Catching a bullet in a steel cup. In one’s mouth. While pulling the trigger on themselves.

Obviously, don't try this at home. Also, don't try it anywhere else.

Getting ready to do the trick reportedly involved being shot multiple times in the chest while wearing a thin bulletproof vest, and being shot at while behind a pane of bulletproof glass, to get conditioned to standing still while being shot at. It's no trick for the faint of heart– and he still forgot to check the solidity of the mouthguard, which snapped in his mouth and cut the back of his throat. Ouch! See the video here.

He is an irresponsible idiot.

I wonder how many kids and less than mature adults will end up dead attempting this “trick”.

What a creep.

He may be an idiot but the bigger idiots are those trying to do this trick.

Maybe some of the anti Trump protesters will try this.

As tempted as some may be to post this on DU and Kos, please don’t. Those delicate snowflakes have had a rough enough week.

I seem to recall some one else doing this sort of thing years ago and even he admitted he used hand loads that were way underpowered. Dangerous, even at that. Fer sure, “Don’t try this at home.”

Not many. It’s one of the oldest tricks in magic and pretty much everybody in the community says “don’t do it don’t do it don’t do it”. People still do it, but it’s a serious advanced trick.

He needs to try it with a larger caliber (+P maybe?).

Magic acts usually involve getting the audience to look in the wrong place. In the case of this, dwelling ad nauseum on the preparations overlooks the assumption that a bullet is a bullet. While the projectile is able (hubba hubba) to puncture a balloon on the way to the magician’s mouth to prove there was a bullet, no mention is made of the powder load in the original cartridge. My guess is that the cartridge is underloaded with powder being just enough to get the bullet out of the casing. But that’s only a guess. IANAM.

Saw that the other night when he had a buddy pull the trigger. Not sure I would call it a “trick”.

But the guy is very impressive with his card tricks and “magic”. Plus I have to give him credit for the street theatre schtick. Fun to watch the people’s reactions. But taking his game on the road to places like Haiti (where they take their voodoo seriously) and “lost tribes” in the Amazon sounds pretty dangerous in itself. Might one day find himself tied up in a large kettle over a campfire...

“But, but, NO! No evil, I swear! I’m an entertainer! it’s just a trick!”

Doesn’t this confirm to the coasties that any person with a gun becomes an idiot just by virtue of touching it. I’m sorry but this is the irresponsible action of a greedy and irreverent person.

I know how the trick works. There’s a lot of parts to it. And it’s still a very dangerous trick. Not as dangerous as it looks, but dangerous.
