Southern Ohio Trip Report -- Trump Signs
Personal ^ | 6 Sep 16 | Xzins

The old saying "the proof is in the pudding" isn't a bad bit of wisdom. That's why the advice to go see for yourself has borne up over the years.

Such it was over the entire Labor Day weekend, as we drove through southern Ohio on a series of jaunts that took us through Fayette, Clinton, Highland, Adams, Clermont, Brown, and Hamilton counties along some of their major and minor highways.

What I saw over the weekend really struck me. First, I saw that the hesitation to put up signs in support of Trump has apparently become passé . I saw lots of Trump signs, and some places had multiple Trump signs.

In that entire time, I saw ONE Clinton sign and that was in a yuppie neighborhood in northeast Hamilton County. Even in Hamilton, though, the Trump signs were evident.

I do believe the shoe is now on the other foot and people truly are embarrassed to admit that they support the totally, obviously corrupt Hillary Clinton for the presidency. The common folk, though, are showing off their support for Trump.

Let me also note that I saw not a single Johnson, Stein, or McMullin(?) sign anyplace.

What does this all mean? Obviously, it's anecdotal, and it is not a scientific random sampling by any means, but we did put lots of miles on the truck, and we saw what we saw. To be honest with you, I really was struck by the absence of Clinton signs, because I distinctly recall the Obama signs from 4 and 8 years ago.

I don't think saying "it's early yet" really accounts for the absence, because the same argument would apply for the Trump signs. Besides, it isn't early. It's pretty late. The election is just about 60 days away.

So, take this in conjunction with polls showing the race close in Ohio, and Trump having a slight lead.

If true that Clinton is in a near tie with Trump in Ohio, this can only mean she has dispirited followers who are not inclined to let others know of their support for the most corrupt candidate ever to run for the presidency of the United States of America.

Ohio is Trump’s at the moment if southern Ohio means anything.

Because of this, I would strongly encourage getting mail in ballots in the hands of the common people as soon as early voting opens up.

I am in Wisconsin. And I have seen few signs. But the Trump signs outnumber the Hillary signs 5 to 1. I just don’t see her signs. Maybe the are not printed yet.

And I definitely see Trump signs where there were virtually none a month ago.

Last week at home the doorbell rang.

An older gentleman from up the street asked if I knew where he could get a Trump sign like mine. I gave him info on the just opened Republican HQ and went down and picked one up for him and delivered it to him. His wife was more gung ho than he was. They are both Latino.

5 to 1 is a pretty overwhelming advantage for Trump.

And I do think a corner has been turned. Trump supporters are throwing any caution to the wind and standing up and loudly shouting out their support for the man.

Also quite a number of signs just say “Make America Great Again”.

I have seen G. Johnson signs, 2 so not many.

Very small in comparison to the Ron Paul signs from last time that I’d see.

Most don’t know it, but we have a significant Hispanic population in especially northwest Ohio.

A good friend from that area is a died in the wool Trump supporter. She (Hispanic) and her husband are longtime republicans, but nonetheless she is strongly supportive of Trump.

I’m pretty sure everyone associates “Make America Great Again” with Donald Trump. Do you agree with that?

I tend to think of signs as being evidence of intensity of support, not necessarily breadth of support. More signs means people who are really excited about their candidate, but not necessarily more people supporting that candidate.

That being said, I still think Trump is winning right now. IIRC, the last Ohio poll had him up by 3%, and I can’t see any reason to think that’s not legitimate.

I think its very important. There were lots of people who were for Trump but, only said so around close friends. Now they are coming out of the closet. And that means they feel its ok to go public with Trump. I think the lack of Hillary signs show that she is losing people who are willing to say they are pro-Hillary.

What you see outside the cities/metro areas is offset and even overwhelmed by the democRATS in the cites. They don’t need to advertise, their support is Pavlovian.

I definitely agree with you on that. Yard signs aren’t a scientific polling of balanced demographics. The one caveat I’d throw in there is that I went through the richest neighborhoods (Indian Hills, Cincinnati), and the poorest (Adams County). The absence of Clinton signs is striking.

If there’s no intensity at all across a range of neighborhoods for Clinton, then that doesn’t speak well for the vigor of her supporters. Maybe they’re all out having coughing fits.

In 2012 Pennsylvania had almost 0 Obama signs in Delaware and Montgomery Counties...and Obama won easily.

I don’t think yard sign comparisons are predicative at all.

A bigger question is will the Democrat machine really turn out the votes in the urban areas? Can Trump swing 10% of that vote?

Personally, I think it looks good for Trump but for the potential fraud.

we have to win big!

I’d be embarrassed of her corruption, too. How does a lady making 170,000 in a government job manage to pile up 200 million in wealth? Inquiring minds want to know.

Not to be a downer, but do the same tour in Cleveland and surroundings.

Hamilton, Butler and Warren Counties are strongly Republican but the Northern Counties favor Dems.

Oberlin, Amherst, Lorain, and much of Cleveland will vote 110% for Clinton.

The inner cities are a concern, but if we accept Clinton’s poll numbers despite the lack of signage, then we’ve also got to accept the poll numbers that say Trump is cutting into the African American vote up to as high as 15%. Obama took ALL of the AA vote. Sometimes he took 2% more AA’s than even existed in those precincts. :>)

One reason why Trump is going after the black vote. Get 20% of the black vote and he wins in a landslide.

Honestly, if I had the free time for a drive up to Cleveland, then I would go. Maybe the opportunity will show up. Who knows?

However, in the meantime, if we’re following the polls, then the polls say Trump is up in Ohio.

Having traveled southern Ohio for 30 years I applaud your perception, I would only caution about the northern Ohio situation. I pray you are right.
